Founded in May, 1987, UUNET was the first company to provide professional Internet access. Formed initially to revitalize the overburdened UUCP electronic mail and USENET news network, UUNET continues to build on its experience to pioneer more advanced Internet services. In January, 1990, UUNET launched AlterNet, a full-service TCP/IP network. AlterNet customers use dial-up or high-speed leased lines for direct access to the full range of services available on the Internet. AlterNet is an independent network that maintains separate, direct connections to most other component networks of the Internet. This unmatched connectivity provides reliable and predictable performance for AlterNet's customers. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1140: Dynamis Software Tera BBS v2.1/UNIX Dynamis Software announced that it was ready to begin selling Tera BBS v2.1/UNIX, the successor to the multi-national Tera BBS v2.0/UNIX. Since August 1993, Tera BBS has been leading the pack with features including RIPscrip and ANSI support. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1141: ICL's Windows E-Mail Application for PC Users on UNIX Networks ICL, a leading information technology company, announces the US launch of EMBLA, a Windows application for PC users on UNIX networks which provides easy access to Internet electronic mail. With a suggested single user list price of $99, EMBLA is available immediately through UniDirect and VarCity; ICL expects to name additional distributors soon. EMBLA server software includes binary IMAP daemons for SunOS/Solaris ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1142: OpenVision's OpenV*NetBackup OpenV*NetBackup 1.7, the newest release of OpenVision's flagship storage management product, introduces comprehensive online backup capabilities to Oracle 7 databases along with other user-driven enhancements that further simplify systems administrator workload and enable valuable corporate data assets to be available around the clock. The resulting cost savings come from eliminating costly downtime, which can impede business critical processing, and the need for a 24-hour database administrator. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1143: SPARC-FLASH 12/94: Table of Contents The following is the table of contents for SPARC-FLASH, the monthly email bulletin from SPARC International. To date, this seminar remains our most popular. Its first run sold out in weeks, despite the added sessions. The Sun User Group is very pleased to be offering this sought after and acclaimed course again. This session of "Advanced Solaris System Administration" will be offered on one day only. ENROLLMENT IS LIMITED TO THE FIRST FORTY PAID REGISTRATIONS. Unfortunately, we will not be able to add any other dates at this time. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1145: SUG SysAdmin Liability Workshop Friday, April 21, 1995 9am-5pm Brookline, MA In November 1994, the Sun User Group held its "UNIX & The Law" symposium in Austin, TX. One of the most valuable, timely, and practical of the talks presented there has been expanded to a full-day workshop. As with all Sun User Group tutorials, space is limited and tutorials frequently sell out well before the earlybird deadline. Target Audience: This tutorial is designed to meet the needs of the system administrator who is faced with the perplexing legal problems posed by activities related to overseeing a multi-user system which is connected to the Internet. Individuals involved in establishing, operating and managing private, commercial, or government systems of this type, along with those in a position to draft policies setting the limits of system use and user expectations will benefit by becoming aware of the underlying legal issues and the current thinking with regards to limiting potential legal liabilities. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9001: General FlashBack/SunFlash Information This article contains general information about the electronic journals that I edit and publish: "SunFlash" , "The Sun FlashBack" and "The Internet Sun FlashBack" I produced "The Florida SunFlash" for nearly six years. "SunFlash" is the continuation of that journal. When "SunFlash" grew to about 100 articles per month, 140,000+ subscribers and 30,000+ article requests per month I decided that it was time to make some changes. For a variety of reasons, I started the two new journals, "The Sun FlashBack" and "The Internet Sun FlashBack" , and moved production of all three journals to an independent company with its own resouces and Internet domain (FlashBack.COM). My goal, as always, is to provide useful, timely, high-quality information to the Sun user community. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9002: FlashBack and SunFlash Index This article contains a one line index entry for each of the articles posted to the electronic journals that I edit and publish: "SunFlash" , "The Sun FlashBack" and "The Internet Sun FlashBack" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ You may send for any of these articles by sending mail to FlashBack@FlashBack.COM.
