SMCC's first published TPC-C results for the new SPARCcenter(TM) 2000E system (introduced today; see separate release) beat out all other UNIX systems with record results of 2152.60 transactions per minute (tpm). SMCC's newest expandable enterprise server, running Informix's high performance database server, INFORMIX-OnLine 5.03 on the Solaris(R) 2.4 symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) operating environment, also delivered one of the industry's most impressive overall SMP price/performance results, $818 per tpmC. BEST SELLING SPARCCENTER 2000E DELIVERS INDUSTRY'S FASTEST UNIX SERVER TPC-C RESULTS "Again Informix has shown its consistency in posting record-breaking price/performance levels in TPC-C benchmarks, over any other vendor in the industry," said Steve Sommer, vice president of marketing at Informix. "Customers who use INFORMIX-OnLine can be assured of consistent and proven "mainframe-caliber" performance from our server." "Coupled with the new SPARCcenter 2000E, these impressive results, underscore SMCC's commitment to providing enterprises with a new level of server power and performance scalability for enterprise-wide database applications," said Carl Stolle, director of server marketing at SMCC. "It is due to this performance leadership and our ability to meet the needs of enterprise customers that has allowed SMCC to remain the leading UNIX database server vendor." According to International Data Corporation (IDC), the SPARCcenter 2000 is the best-selling UNIX relational database management system, with more than 1,000 units shipped worldwide in 1993. Plus, for three consecutive years, SMCC has led the industry with the largest share of the UNIX relational database server market. Growing nearly 58 percent from 1992 to 1993, Sun systems accounted for 27.2 percent of the market. The new SPARCcenter 2000E server employs an innovative multiprocessor design that enables users to increase performance by plugging in more processor modules thus allowing enterprises to grow their database workloads while protecting their information technology investment. System performance has also been enhanced up to 70 percent due to a combination of faster system and I/O busses and software tuning.
