Industry-leading product features first announced for Solaris 2 in January 1994, will now be available for Solaris 1. Major enhancements have been made to SPARCworks(TM)/iMPact(TM) multithreaded development tools. As a first step in the agreement, SNI has licensed the foundation technology central to SunSoft's DOE (Distributed Object Environment), and is currently evaluating the DOE object application environment, which is based on OpenStep(tm). The SPARCcluster(TM) 1000 PDB(TM) and the SPARCcluster(TM) 2000 PDB(TM) servers address key customer requirements, including access to shared databases, ensured data integrity despite failures and fully automated failure detection and recovery mechanisms. Future scalability of up to eight nodes ensures long-term protection of customer investments. SMCC's first published TPC-C results for the new SPARCcenter(TM) 2000E system (introduced today; see separate release) beat out all other UNIX systems with record results of 2152.60 transactions per minute (tpm). Revenues for the quarter were $1.273 billion, up nearly 33 percent from the $960.5 million reported for the corresponding period a year ago. The company's first quarter net income more than doubled to $38.4 million, compared with $16.6 million in the first quarter of the prior fiscal year.
