SUNSOFT OFFERS DCE PRODUCTS FOR SOLARIS 2 Meets Major Milestone in Common Open Software Environment Mountain View, Calif. -- Aug. 24, 1993 -- SunSoft, Inc. today announced the availability of DCE core networking services for the Solaris 2.2 SPARC computing environment, allowing users to integrate DCE with the ONC+ core networking services into their enterprise-wide computing environments. Today's announcement marks another major milestone in SunSoft's support of the common open software environment process. The company announced the availability of a Motif toolkit for the Solaris environment, the first major milestone, last month. SunSoft will distribute and support Transarc Corp's DCE product suite which was developed for the Solaris 2.2 operating environment. The DCE software will be incorporated into the Solaris Federated Services networking architecture, allowing DCE services to operate as a peer to the ONC+ services within enterprise-wide networks. The product suite includes DCE Base Services, the DCE Cell Directory Service, the DCE Security Service, and the DCE Application Toolkit. In addition, the DCE Distributed File System and DCE Enhanced File Service for the Solaris environment is planned for the fourth quarter of calendar year 1993. "Today's announcement underscores SunSoft's commitment to the common open software environment process and to delivering heterogeneous distributed computing solutions," said Helen Bradley, vice president of systems software for SunSoft. "Transarc DCE takes full advantage of the Federated Services architecture and the native threads capabilities in Solaris to deliver a powerful networking solution to our customers worldwide." Pricing and Availability Transarc DCE for Solaris 2.2/SPARC is available immediately from SunSoft. The single license for the DCE Base Service is priced at $495 and the DCE Cell Directory and Security Services are $3,095 each. The DCE Application Toolkit, which is required for developing DCE-based applications, is priced at $495. The DCE product for the Solaris x86 environment is planned for the second half of calendar year 1994. Pricing and availability will be announced at that time.
