Superior Performance With Better Clarity and Sharpness MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- October 20, 1993 -- Sun Microsystems Computer Corporation (SMCC) today introduced the industry's highest-performance, lowest electromagnetic emission color monitor. This highly compact 20-inch color monitor is priced the same as the standard 19-inch color monitor it replaces. With a maximum resolution of 1280x1024 pixels at 76 Hz, this new monitor is stereo and multimedia ready. SMCC has taken a leadership position in reducing electromagnetic emissions with the new color monitor. This is one of very few monitors in the market that comply with Europe's new TCO electromagnetic emissions standard, which mandates emissions approximately half those for the established European MPR 1990:10 standard. TCO is the strictest electromagnetic emissions standard in the world. The new 20-inch monitor offers superior performance compared to other monitors on the market. With a new picture tube and improved circuitry, the monitor offers visibly better clarity and sharpness than comparable products from other suppliers. Better magnetic shielding makes this monitor less sensitive to ambient magnetic fields. It also has more accurate color reproduction and a tighter convergence specification. SMCC's new SPARCstation 10ZX and SPARCstation10 TurboGXplus will be the first workstations to take full advantage of these features, leading the industry with the fastest 2-D and 3-D graphics workstation under $20,000. New Patented Design and Remote Control The 20-inch color monitor sports a sleek, patented cabinet, which makes it the most compact monitor in its class. The video and power cables are recessed, allowing the monitor to be placed adjacent to the wall, thereby taking up no more desk space than a 16-inch monitor. The monitor also features an innovative remote control. This infrared device is stored in a pocket below the screen and more than doubles the number of monitor adjustments. It gives users control over such new elements as tilt, horizontal image position, and image size. Users can now shrink or expand their display areas to the very edges of the workstation screen without losing any clarity or focus. Future versions of the 20-inch monitor will support software-driven screen controls. This color monitor will replace the current 19-inch color monitor on all system configurations. This new color monitor is now shipping in volume. Sun Microsystems Computer Corporation (SMCC), is the world's leading supplier of client-server computing solutions.
