SunNet Manager 2.1 makes the functionality of SunNet Manager 2.0 available to Solaris 2.1 users. SunNet Manager 2.0 will continue to be offered by SMCC. SunNet Manager is based on a protocol-independent, distributed management architecture and offers an open and intuitive graphical topology display, and a complete set of applications for automated fault isolation, diagnosis, network monitoring and control. In addition, SunNet Manager provides distributed manager/agent services, open APIs for developers, and a site license for SNMP agents. SunNet Manager 2.1 contains management agents for both Solaris 2.1 and Solaris 1.0 systems. Network managers running the SunNet Manager 2.1 console on Solaris 2.1 systems can remotely manage agents for both Solaris 1.0 and Solaris 2.X systems. SunNet Manager is architected for management of heterogeneous network environments. Multi-protocol support comes through the use of proxy agents in the manager/agent services APIs. SunNet Manager can communicate to any private network management protocol through a proxy written to its agent services API. SunNet Manager also maintains a cache of information about the network, allowing a network manager to run diagnostics when other systems on the network are inoperable. SunNet Manager is a complete package for distributed management, yet allows extensibility by the skilled user or development partner.
