SMTP and POP2/POP3 Protocol Support. Compatible with Sun MailTool v3 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- SelectMAIL(TM) software is now available from Sun Microsystems Computer Corporation (SMCC). SelectMAIL is a new electronic mail product for MS-DOS(R) and MicroSoft(R) WINDOWS operating environments that runs on popular PC networking software, including PC-NFS(R) software. SelectMAIL gives users the ability to exchange mail among PCs, SPARC(R) -processor based systems running the Solaris(R) operating environment, UNIX(R) system workstations and mobile computers over global TCP/IP networks. SelectMail users can share mail with any system running the Simple Message Transfer Protocol (SMTP). SelectMAIL is fully compatible with Sun's MailTool v3 and fully backward compatible with SunSelect's PC-NFS LifeLine(TM) and Backup Copilot(TM) products. Among the features of the SelectMAIL product that runs on MS-Windows are a text-or-binary file attachment capability, a spelling checker, a read/receipt confirmation option that notifies the sender that a mail message has been delivered and read (between copies of SelectMAIL for Windows), local and global addressing capabilities that allow users any system administrators to set up their own local and global aliases, and a queueing facility that lets mobile users have complete e-mail capabilities when the are away from the network. In addition, the SelectMail product that runs on MS-Windows is the first shipping end-user application that fully supprts the Windows Sockets Application Programming Interface (API), a standard interface based on the RsocketsS paradigm. This allows any MS-Windows network application written to the API, working in conjunction with PC networking software, to run unchanged over any TCP/IP network. The SelectMAIL product that runs on MS-DOS is an enhancement to and a replacement for the PC-NFS LifeLine and Backup Copilot products. The rich feature set of the MS-DOS product includes SMTP and Post Office protocol 2/3 (POP2/POP3) support, an automated scheduler-for-backup function, a delayed delivery option, simple-to-use cut-and-paste, a search capability, fail notification, and text-attachment capability. Both the MS-DOS abd MS-WINDOWS versions of the SelectMAIL product interoperate with each other. TRANSITION FOR PC-NFS LifeLine ------------------------------ SelectMAIL will replace PC-NFS LifeLine.
