March 24, 1993 -- Sun Microsystems Federal, Inc., (Sun Federal) and JWP Information Services today announced they have signed an agreement that authorizes JWP to market and resell Sun SPARC(TM) workstations and server systems to state and local governments throughout the United States. JWP is one of the leading system integrators for such users, while Sun systems -- running the Solaris(R) computing environment -- are the world's top-selling workstations and servers. Most of the users to be served by JWP are involved in moving information systems and critical software applications from a traditional mainframe computing environment to a distributed client-server environment. Under the agreement, JWP will offer state and local government customers integration, installation, and maintenance services. The two companies will also initiate joint sales efforts to penetrate the state and local government market, where JWP's field sales is especially strong. Commenting on the alliance, Thomas Cook, Sun Federal manager, state and local governments, said that JWP is an ideal partner. "JWP has the management, customer support services and technical expertise to deliver our open, client-server solutions to this growing state and local government market."
