The following announcement summarizes pricing changes for the SPARCstation ELC, SPARCstation IPC, SPARCstation 2 and SPARCserver 600MP (Cypress Ross-based SPARC processors only) and related upgrades. It also summarizes transition plans for the SPARCstation ELC, SPARCstation IPC, and SPARCserver 600MP (Cypress Ross-based SPARC processors only) Please read it carefully as it contains important information regarding price increases and order deadlines. During the past 12 months demand for SPARCstation ELC and SPARCstation IPC products has steadily declined. With the overwhelming market acceptance of the SPARCclassic and SPARCstation LX products coupled with the SPARCstation IPX price reductions, this decline has increased rapidly since November 10, 1992. And with the volume availability of SuperSPARC processors for the SPARCstation 10 and SPARCserver 600MP, demand for SPARCstation 2 and SPARCserver 600MP-Cypress has also declined rapidly since last quarter. This overall decline in demand for the SPARCstation ELC, SPARCstation IPC, SPARCstation 2 and SPARCserver 600MP-Cypress has continued to increase production costs on these systems. Therefore, effective immediately, the prices of all configurations on these systems will increase. System price increases range from $1,000 to $6,000 depending on the platform and configuration, with price increases also applying to some of the related upgrades. With the new system platforms using microSPARC and SuperSPARC now shipping in volume, SPARCsystem customers ready to dramatically improve performance can do so by moving to SMCC's latest systems -- the SPARCclassic, SPARCstation LX, SPARCstation 10 and SPARCserver 600MP (with SuperSPARC modules)!! Existing prices will be honored on all orders placed on or before March 12, 1993, that have requested shipment dates on or before March 28, 1993.
