SPARCworks Professional Ada 2.0 consists of SPARCompiler(TM) Ada 2.0 and SPARCworks/Ada 2.0. SPARCompiler Ada 2.0 and SPARCworks/Ada 2.0 are available individually as well. SMCC also announces a price adjustment for the Sun Ada Development Environment for Solaris 1.1 (formerly called Sun Ada Development Environment). The Sun Ada Development Environment for Solaris 1.1 will be priced identically to the 2.0 version, which is priced higher than the 1.1's earlier price. This price adjustment will take effect immediately. PRODUCT POSITIONING ------------------- SPARCworks Professional Ada is a complete Ada development environment, used primarily in US Federal Government/Department of Defense market. SPARCworks Professional Ada 2.0 brings an Ada development environment to Solaris 2.1 and later releases, and includes some new features over the Sun Ada Development Environment for Solaris 1.1. New features include performance enhancements such as SuperSPARC(TM) processor optimization, dynamic linking of shared libraries and a multi-source front-end to improve compiler throughput. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION ------------------- SPARCworks Professional Ada consists of SPARCworks/Ada, a GUI-based set of programmer productivity tools, and SPARCompiler Ada, an Ada compiler optimized for the SPARC(R) architecture. The SPARCompiler Ada is a complete compiler that includes: - Validated MIL-STD-1815A Ada compiler - 10 levels of optimization - Interfaces to C and assembly language SPARCompiler Ada also includes a set of command-line programming support tools for profiling, disassembling, source-code formatting, and debugging Ada programs, as well as tools for minimizing recompilation and organizing and managing Ada program libraries. SPARCworks/Ada is a set of GUI tools that accelerate Ada development by increasing the productivity of Ada programmers. SPARCworks/Ada includes: - AdaVision - an easy-to-use object-based interface to graphically manage Ada libraries. Also gives point and click access to the entire toolset giving programmers a quick and productive edit-compile-debug cycle - AdaDebug - to debug Ada programs in a multiwindow visual environment. Includes a Task Browser with Task Views to debug individual Ada tasks (unique to SPARCworks/Ada) - EditTool - to synchronize compiler errors with source code. Programmers can quickly cycle through error messages and make corrections to further speed the edit-compile-debug cycle - LRMTool - to quickly access information in the standard (ANSI/MIL-STD-1815A) Ada Language Reference Manual. Uses hypertext links and multiple windows for greater productivity - FileMerge - to visually compare and merge source files - SPARCworks Manager - to manage individual software development session tasks FEATURES AND BENEFITS --------------------- Features Benefits Validated MIL-STD- Industry standard required for most Ada development. 1815A Optimizing Also complies with ANSI and FIPS standards for Ada compiler OEM relationship Verdix provides leading, proven, robust, fast with Verdix Corp compilation technology. Includes compatibility with Verdix's VADSCross tools for a complete cross development solution. Sun has exclusive rights to the self hosted Verdix Ada compiler for the SPARC architecture Full Chapter 13 Gives more control over the hardware support Stand-aside, non- Debug any executable, without need for intrusive debugger compile/debug switches GUI based tools Simple and intuitive interface increases programmer productivity. For example, a programmer can use the mouse to open Ada objects, or to drag and drop an Ada object from the File Manager into the editor or debugger for automatic startup Object-based interface Programmers are shielded from the UNIX(R) file with AdaVision system and UNIX-like commands Task Browser and More efficient program viewing. Task Views Lets users debug multitasking Ada programs on a task-by-task basis, with task specific control over the debugging session (as opposed to a single monolithic view of the program) SPARCworks Manager & ToolTalk(R) Enhances tool integration and session management SuperSPARC Improve runtime performance on Viking-based hardware Optimizations (SPARCstation 10, SPARCserver 1000, and SPARCcenter(TM) 2000 systems) Multi-source Frontend Shares common information across multiple source files to speed compiling Ada libraries and large programs HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE CONSIDERATIONS ------------------------------------ Runs on SPARC-processor based systems with at least 12 MB of main memory. Effective use of the floating licenses require that these systems be networked. Requires the Solaris 2.1 environment or later Solaris release. UPGRADE PLAN ------------ Customers on support contracts with the Sun Ada Development Environment 1.1 will be upgraded automatically to SPARCworks Professional Ada 2.0. For an existing ADE 1.1 customer without a support contract there is a discounted upgrade pricing package available.
