---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Florida SunFlash SunExpress In Europe SunFLASH Vol 45 #12 September 1992 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- SUNEXPRESS TO OFFER EASY ORDERING OF SUN PRODUCTS TO CUSTOMERS IN EUROPE LINCOLN, Mass. --September 14, 1992-- SunExpress, a business unit of Sun Microsystems, Inc., today formally announced it is now operating in Europe. SunExpress Europe provides a new distribution channel for easy ordering and fast delivery of Sun products. Choosing items from the SunExpress(TM) catalog, customers can place orders by telephone, fax or post and receive products within five business days. SunExpress Europe will initially support customers in the United Kingdom, France and Germany and is now accepting orders. The opening of the new European office follows the recent expansion of SunExpress into Japan. SunExpress offers users simple and quick access to customer-installable products, such as memory, storage, supplies, accessories, software and printing, networking and bus expansion products. Knowledgeable telesales representatives will take orders, answer questions and provide sales assistance in English, French and German. Sun already services these markets through its subsidiaries and resellers. SunExpress Europe complements the present infrastructure by offering an alternative to traditional order processing and delivery. For example, if a customer has purchased systems and later decides that he would like additional memory, he would simply call SunExpress Europe and would quickly receive his order. SunExpress's expansion into Europe was prompted by Sun's growing international presence. Sun has 20 subsidiaries around the world. In addition, more than half of its revenue is derived from outside the United States. Specifically, Europe currently accounts for approximately 30 percent of Sun's sales. According to International Data Corporations (IDC), Sun is the workstation and server market share leader (shipments) in both France and the United Kingdom, with 46.4 and 46.1 percent, respectively. In 1990, Germany, France and the United Kingdom accounted for nearly two-thirds of the entire Western European workstation and server market in both shipments and revenue. IDC also reported that the Western European market comprises approximately one-third of the worldwide market, which was valued at $7.4 billion in 1990. IDC predicts it will increase to $23.4 billion by 1995. Customers can order products toll-free from SunExpress by telephone or fax weekdays from 9 a.m to 6 p.m. (Central European time) and receive delivery within five business days. Products will carry a warranty. SunExpress has appointed Paul Musson general manager of SunExpress Europe. It is headquartered in England with telesales operation located in the Netherlands. SunExpress, a business unit of Sun Microsystems, Inc., is dedicated to the quick, easy order fulfillment of customer installable products that enhance the Sun computing environment. SunExpress is headquartered in Lincoln, Massachusetts with operations in the United States, Europe and Japan. ### Sun, Sun Microsystems, Sun Microsystems Computer Corporation, SunExpress and the Sun logo are trademarks or registered trademarks of Sun Microsystems Inc.
