---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Florida SunFlash SUNSOFT'S TOOLTALK AVAILABLE FOR INDUSTRY'S LEADING COMPUTER PLATFORMS SunFLASH Vol 46 #24 October 1992 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Application Interoperability Demonstrated Across Multiple Systems INTEROP, San Francisco, Oct. 28, 1992 -- SunSoft, Inc., today announced that ToolTalk, the industry's foremost interapplication communication software, is now available for seven leading computer platforms. ToolTalk communication software brings universal plug-and-play application integration to users of over 75 percent of the world's UNIX workstations, including systems from Cray Research, Inc., Digital Equipment Corp., Hewlett-Packard, IBM Corp., Intergraph, Silicon Graphics, Inc., Sun Microsystems Computer Corp. and SPARC-compatible vendors. ToolTalk's ability to link applications across a heterogeneous network was demonstrated at the SunSoft booth here today. The announcement adds to the growing momentum for SunSoft's ToolTalk communication software over the last year. More than 50 independent software vendors in a range of market segments have already endorsed ToolTalk, including Lotus Development Corp., Frame Technology, Interleaf, Island Graphics, Applix, Clarity Software, Cadre Technologies, SunPro and CenterLine Software. In addition, SunSoft has worked with leading software developers and end users to create standard message sets in the areas of desktop productivity, multimedia, databases and CASE to allow for seamless integration of applications from different vendors. ToolTalk unlocks traditional application interoperability limitations and enables universal plug-and-play integration between applications on networked, multivendor systems. With ToolTalk-enabled applications, users are no longer limited to integrated software packages where the vendor chooses which applications work together, or by applications which only interoperate with other applications on a stand-alone system or a network of single-vendor systems. "The ability to automatically send information from one application to another across the network regardless of the application, the information or hardware platform is a requirement for increasing user productivity in today's multivendor environments," said Jim Billmaier, vice president of product marketing for SunSoft. "ToolTalk allows users to focus on the job at hand by giving them universal plug-and-play interoperability for all applications across the corporate network." Availability SunSoft ships ToolTalk communication software bundled with Solaris 2.0 on SPARC and with early access versions of Solaris 2.0 for x86.
