QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS --------------------- Q: What are the differences between the Mid-Range 16-inch color monitor and the current Premium color 16-inch monitor? A: The Mid-Range 16-inch color monitor is a high quality monitor produced by the same manufacturer supplying our popular Premium color monitors. Below is a comparison of the two products. Monitor comparison at a glance: Technical Mid-Range (EC) Premium (FC) --------- ------- ------ Flat profile tube (cylindrical) Y Y Display refresh rate 66Hz 66/76Hz Overscan mode N Y Brightness/ contrast controls Y Y Static convergence controls N Y Detachable video cable (13W3) N Y Universal power supply Y Y Worldwide agency compliance certified? Y Y Appearance Difference Summary: ------------------------------ The new Mid-Range 16-inch color (EC) - Has some appearance and front bezel differences, however the monitor base is identical to the Premium 16-inch color base (same dimensions as top of IPC or IPX system chassis) - Display tube is slightly darker in contrast The current Premium 16-inch monitor (FC) - Has a slightly flatter cylindrical profile - Display will adjust approximately 15% brighter than the Mid-Range 16-inch color Q: Is the Mid-Range color 16-inch a permanent product? A: Yes, the Mid-Range color 16-inch is a permanent addition to Sun's IPC product line. This is *not* a temporary promotion. Q: Why is the monitor video cable "captive" (attached permanently) to the rear panel of the Mid-Range monitor? What should customers do with the 13W3 video cable that arrives in the accessory kit? A: This "captive" cable simplifies the customers system installation, provides higher reliability, and is a cost benefit to Sun. The Mid-Range 16-inch color monitor is designed with keeping product costs to a minimum. In the near future, country kits will be structured so that Mid-Range 16-inch color customers will no longer receive an extra 13W3 video cable. In the meantime, customers have the option to save the extra 13W3 video cable as a spare for other SPARCstations or they may simply discard it.
