---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Florida SunFlash Third Party Product Announcements IV SunFLASH Vol 41 #16 May 1992 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ScanShop SpeedStor New Product Announcement sysmon : a screen-oriented real-time system performance analysis tool TurboSwap(R) Improves Performance of Swap and I/O Bound Applications -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Roxy Wolosenko" Subject: ScanShop ScanShop(tm) is an application program which brings image capture to SPARC systems users. ScanShop supports a variety of scanner devices including Fujitsu, Ricoh and Epson SCSI scanners. ScanShop is designed for users of all kinds in desktop publishing or document image processing applications. With its powerful graphical user interface, ScanShop is a stand-alone application. With its command line interface ScanShop can be used as an imbedded image capture utility within other applications. ScanShop allows full control over the characteristics of the scanning process. Brightness, contrast and threshold can be adjusted through the use of slider control bars in the graphical user interface. Interactive image capture is facilitated through the use of the image preview function and readjustment of the image capture characteristics. ScanShop provides control for black and white, grey scale, and 24 bit color image capture for up to seven simultaneously-active scanners. ScanShop can save captured images into either TIFF or SUN Raster file formats. This allows image import into the most popular desktop publishing and document processing software applications. ScanShop also provides a full set of advanced scanner features including support for high performance document image processing scanners. Gamma control allows the characteristics of the scanning device to be adjusted for the best possible image capture quality. The photo invert feature creates a negative of an image. The dither pattern upload/download capability in ScanShop allows custom dithering patterns to be applied. The auto-document feeder (ADF) adds batch-mode scanning capabilities. In addition, ScanShop's modular design allows vendor-unique features to be easily incorporated in future ScanShop versions and accessed through the command line and graphical user interfaces. ScanShop is an extension of Vividata's Vividrivers(r) technology. Vividrivers are a comprehensive approach to device connectivity. Their modular architecture provides a single, device-independent interface for all scanners, host adapters, and OS platforms. Vividrivers are being used by leading scanning device manufacturers as their solution for application connectivity. ScanShop is available now at the U.S. suggested list price of $695. ScanShop runs on SPARC and SPARC compatible workstations supporting SunOS 4.0.3 or greater and OpenWindows 2.0 or 3.0. Currently Supported Scanners: Ricoh Is50, IS60, IS410 Fujitsu M3096G Epson ES 300C ScanShop Evaluation Policy End-Users Evaluation units can be licensed for $100. A 40-day floating license is issued for the software. If the user chooses to purchase a full license, he or she may call Vividata with payment information for the full price, less the credit for the initial evaluation license already paid. Vividata will then issue a permanent license to the user. Resellers Evaluation units can be licensed for $100. A 40-day floating license is issued for the software. The $100 fee will be credited to the first order placed by the reseller. When the reseller has placed an order for additional (resale) copies, Vividata will, upon request, issue a one year license for the evaluation copy. This not-for-resale copy can be used for training and demonstration of the software. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: jkovacs@qualix.com (Jean Kovacs) Subject: SpeedStor New Product Announcement SpeedStor for SunOS available from Qualix --------------------- Cuts installation of hard drives in SPARCstations by 90% SpeedStor for SunOS is the first program that eliminates the time consuming process of installing generic SCSI hard drives on SPARCstations. SpeedStor's "point and click" GUI eliminates the need to calculate or memorize complicated commands or edit format.dat files when preparing hard drives or changing drive partitions. SpeedStor also provides on-going management of SCSI hard drives with easy-to-identify screen icons and sophisticated object-oriented diagnostics. No longer is it necessary to buy a pre-prepared hard drive for your SPARCstation. Purchase a generic SCSI hard drive and use SpeedStor. With SpeedStor, preparing a generic SCSI drive takes as little as ten minutes. SpeedStor reads the firmware and geometry of the hard drive and automatically performs all drive preparations, thus eliminating the need for format.dat entries.
