---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Florida SunFlash SMCC Revamps U.S. Reseller Support Programs SunFLASH Vol 39 #4 March 1992 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Adds Software Telephone Support Services; Discounts on Spares, Repair Services, Fees MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. --March 2, 1992-- Sun Microsystems Computer Corporation (SMCC) today unveiled enhancements to its reseller service programs for U.S. value-added resellers (VARs) and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). The revised programs incorporate two new software support services as well as enhancements to the existing reseller support programs, allowing SMCC resellers to better tailor service to customers' distinct needs. The new software services, SunSupportLine(SM) and SunSupportLine Plus (SM), are an added feature of the existing services and enable resellers to offer end users unlimited telephone support for system software running on Sun(TM) workstations and servers. SunSupportLine also provides resellers with software updates for their SMCC demonstration systems. SunSupportLine Plus expands on this by giving resellers automatic software updates for their end users' systems as well. SMCC revised its programs in response to extensive surveys conducted recently with its resellers. The company has more than 900 resellers in the United States. "Responding to reseller needs is a top priority for us," said Greg Sherrill, SMCC director of U.S. customer support. "These changes make it even easier for resellers to do business with us and to provide top-quality support to the end users that are buying Sun systems." Revisions to SunPartners Service Program SMCC's SunPartners(SM) program offers several options for service and support that are tailored to reseller service capabilities and resources, so that resellers can make service a revenue-producing component of their business. These options are: SunService Pro(SM) (previously Co-Op I), in which SMCC provides resellers with logistics planning services, diagnostics, documentation, training, board repair services and backup support. New program features include unlimited hardware telephone support, increased discounts on spares purchases and repairs, and a reduction in the annual program fee. The SunSupportLine Plus software support program is also incorporated in SunService Pro. The reseller is responsible for end user service, delivery and pricing. This option gives resellers maximum account control and is recommended for resellers who offer a total support solution. SunService Manager(SM) (previously Maintenance Manager), in which resellers are the primary interface to the customer and subcontract end user hardware and software support to SMCC. The reseller maintains account control, including call screening and responding to all service requests. New to this program are increased discounts on hardware service from SMCC products. SunSupportLine Plus software support is also incorporated into this program. SunService Agent(SM) (previously Maintenance Reseller), in which resellers offer an SMCC service contract directly to their end users along with their Sun equipment. The service contract is between the end user and SMCC, and allows the reseller to ensure hardware and software services to its customers without making large investment in service resources. A new feature of this program is SunSupportLine software support.
