---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Florida SunFlash SMCC Expands Educational Services Worldwide SunFLASH Vol 39 #2 March 1992 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- New Training Centers; Agreements with Partners Worldwide MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. --March 2, 1992-- Sun Microsystems Computer Corporation (SMCC) today announced that it has opened customer training centers in Dallas and New York City. In addition, SMCC has agreements with service partners around the world to expand the delivery of courses to SMCC customers, bringing the number of centers worldwide to 65. The new facilities in Dallas and New York will train more than 2,000 customers per year. The centers offer customers a variety of courses, ranging from system administration, the Sun operating system and software, to programming and networking. SMCC centers worldwide offer more than 50 courses for software developers, application and graphics programmers, system programmers, and hardware maintainers. SMCC designs its courses to enable customers to optimize use of their workstations and increase productivity through superior technical and user training. Course options include classroom training (with lectures and laboratory exercises), technical seminars, interactive self-paced and video-based courses and group employee training at customer sites. As the leader in UNIX(R) system training, SMCC has trained more than 33,000 customers in the past year at centers in 20 countries around the globe. In addition to the new facilities, SMCC has training centers in the United States in California, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin, as well as in Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Service Partners To provide more customers with the convenience and cost-effectiveness of local training, SMCC has also partnered with third-party companies that offer expert instructors and high-quality facilities. The educational partners are trained and qualified by SMCC to ensure that training is consistently excellent and meets customers' needs. In the United States, SMCC's educational partners include: Barrios Technology, Inc. (Texas), Bell Atlantic Business Systems (Wisconsin), ERI (Electro Rep datacom products Inc.) (New York), Metters Industries Inc. (Virginia), New Horizons Computer Learning Center (California) and PrimeService (Massachusetts). SMCC manages course registration and provides the course materials. Outside the United States, SMCC has partnered with authorized third parties to deliver SMCC training. With these agreements, the customer deals directly with the service partner for course registration, billing and delivery.
