---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Florida SunFlash SMCC ESTABLISHES SUBSIDIARY IN MEXICO SunFLASH Vol 42 #32 June 1992 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif -- June 24, 1992 -- Sun Microsystems Computer Corporation (SMCC) announced today that is has established Sun Mexico as its 19th worldwide subsidiary and the second subsidiary in Latin America for SMCC. Sun Mexico will provide local sales, service and marketing support to SMCC's distributors, value-added resellers and customers in Mexico. The office will also focus on the recruitment of local independent software vendors to the Sun platform. Latin America is one of SMCC's fastest-growing geographies, with Mexico playing a key role. SMCC is the leading workstation/server vendor in Mexico, according to International Data Corporation (IDC). SMCC leads a market that should grow 51 percent (compounded annual growth rate) in the next three years, to $121 million (US). Sun products have been sold in Mexico since 1987, with sales primarily through Sun partners. These partners, distributors and resellers will continue to focus on penetrating the financial, banking, telecommunications, oil/gas, education and research markets. Steve Tirado, a six-year veteran of Sun Microsystems, has been named general manager of Sun Microsystems De Mexico, S.A. de C.V., which will be located in the Polanco area of Mexico City. More than 50 percent of SMCC's revenues come from non-U.S. markets, thus the new Mexican subsidiary is part of the company's ongoing efforts to expand worldwide. SMCC also has subsidiaries in Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Korea, Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan and the United Kingdom.
