---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Florida SunFlash SunSoft Completes Acquisition Of Interactive Systems Intel UNIX Business SunFLASH Vol 37 #14 January 1992 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Jan. 15, 1992 -- SunSoft and the Eastman Kodak Company today announced the completion of SunSoft's acquisition of Interactive Systems Corporation's Intel UNIX business. Kodak will continue to operate the Services and Technologies group as Interactive Systems Corp. This acquisition further underscores SunSoft's commitment to the Intel market. With the synergy of the combined engineering resources, SunSoft will accelerate development of the Solaris 2.0 distributed computing solution on 80X86 platforms. SunSoft now has a worldwide sales presence and customer base for UNIX/ 80X86 products in the United States, including the federal government, Europe and Asia. Details on SunSoft's product plans with the Interactive acquisition will be unveiled at a later date. According to International Data Corporation, a market research firm based in Framingham, Mass., this gives SunSoft access to the largest installed base of 32-bit operating systems on the Intel 80X86 microprocessor architecture for shipments through 1990 (see attached charts). In addition, SunSoft's position as the largest supplier of 32-bit system software worldwide is further enhanced. "Our announcement today reaffirms our strong commitment to the Intel space in the areas of technology, distribution and marketing," said Edward J. Zander, president of SunSoft. "We plan to aggressively pursue our goal of making Solaris the leading distributed computing solution on the 80X86 architecture." SunSoft is in the process of assimilating Interactive's Intel/UNIX products and employees into the company. SunSoft will continue to offer the complete Interactive ARCHITECH Series product line with full service and support. SunSoft will offer Interactive UNIX customers a migration path to its Solaris 2.0 distributed computing solution on the 80X86 architecture.
