---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Florida SunFlash Intergraph's MicroStation Now Available For Sun SparcStations SunFLASH Vol 37 #1 January 1992 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Huntsville, Ala. --January 2, 1991-- Intergraph Corporation and Sun Microsystems Computer Corp. (SMCC) today announced that Intergraph's MicroStation SPARC(R) software for Sun(TM) SPARCstation(TM) systems will be available January 14. Part of an agreement to port select Intergraph software to SPARCstation systems, the announcement of MicroStation for the SPARCstation is significant for the CAD industry. "MicroStation is rapidly becoming the CAD nucleus of choice for companies of all sizes," said Maurice Romine, executive vice president of marketing at Intergraph Corporation. "This announcement is very important for companies that are looking to extend MicroStation's power and integration advantages to departments already using the Sun platform." MicroStation runs on PCs, Macintoshes, and Intergraph UNIX(R) workstations. MicroStation on the SPARCstation is the latest advance in furthering MicroStation's multi-platform strategy, offering users an additional UNIX platform. On the Sun SPARCstation, MicroStation offers the members of the Sun third-party Catalyst Program a premier foundation for CAD applications development. Sun expects MicroStation sales to leverage $50 million in SPARCstation sales in the first year. "This agreement further enhances Sun's position as the leading platform for design," said Larry Hambly, vice president of marketing at Sun Microsystems Computer Corporation. "It is also of significance to the industry -- bringing together the world's leading workstation manufacturer with one of the largest CAD/CAM companies." "The availability of Intergraph software on Sun SPARCstation systems is one of the most important announcements in the CAD/CAM industry in this decade," said David Burdick, an industry analyst and vice president of Dataquest Inc., systems group. MicroStation 4.0 offers one of the CAD industry's most elegant easy-to-use GUIs (graphical user interface). Combining impressive design power and easy tailoring, the software is increasingly the choice of individual users and workgroup managers alike. MicroStation offers all of the advantages of an open system, with networking, relational databases, standard file formats, and a wealth of third-party applications. Users appreciate the benefits of MicroStation's complete compatibility on multiple platforms. MicroStation on SPARCstation systems brings added flexibility to the multitude of government contractors and consultants required to submit projects in Intergraph file format. The leading RISC UNIX platform in the industry is SMCC's powerful family of SPARCstations and SPARCserver(TM) systems running the Solaris operating environment. This broad line of compatible, open systems ranges from entry level desktops that offer both performance and low price up to a line of multiprocessing servers. Based on UNIX, this family of computers can share information with systems from other vendors, from PCs to supercomputers. DELIVERY MicroStation SPARC is available through Intergraph's authorized MicroStation SPARC dealers, value-added resellers, and direct sales force. The complementary MicroStation Development Language will be released separately at a subsequent date. MicroStation SPARC will be available January 14.
