The company also announced strategic partnerships with Ziff-Davis Press, a leader in commercial and retail book publishing, and the Professional Technical Reference (PTR) division of Prentice Hall, a leader in professional and technical book publishing, to deliver Solaris expertise through their worldwide network of retail and technical bookstores. SunSoft Press will work with Ziff-Davis Press and PTR Prentice Hall to develop books targeted at end users, software developers and system administrators. The books, ranging from porting guides to quick reference books and retail product manuals, will be available through national bookstores including B. Dalton, Barnes & Noble, Crown Books, Software Etc., Stacey's and Walden Books. The first books from SunSoft Press will focus on Solaris 2.0, the company's 32-bit distributed computing solution, and its key technologies. These include porting guides for Solaris on the SPARC and 80386/486 platforms, quick reference and implementation guides for system administration, and in-depth books on the Solaris user environment and the DeskSet tools. Future books will cover Solaris multiprocessing and multithreading technologies, compilers and tools, graphics and SunSoft's Project DOE (Distributed Objects Everywhere) initiative.
