---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Florida SunFlash Sun Consolidates in Chelmsford SunFLASH Vol 44 #18 August 1992 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- SUN MICROSYSTEMS TO CONSOLIDATE MASSACHUSETTS OFFICES IN CHELMSFORD MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- August 12, 1992 -- Sun Microsystems, Inc., announced today that it has signed a long-term lease for three buildings in Chelmsford, Mass. The 320,000 square feet of office and production space in Altid Park will serve as the company's East Coast headquarters and will consolidate four existing Sun offices located throughout Massachusetts (Billerica, Andover, Methuen and Westford) into a single "campus." As part of the agreement with building owner Teacher's Realty Corp.,Sun plans to lease an additional, existing building and has the option to lease a fifth building and to purchase an adjacent parcel for the construction of a new building. The consolidation of offices will offer employees improved support facilities and services and will give Sun a more united East Coast presence. Sun has 12,800 employees worldwide, with approximately 1,100 people located in the state of Massachusetts. Relocation into the Chelmsford campus will be complete by the end of 1993. The following Sun Microsystems businesses will locate offices in Chelmsford: SunExpress headquarters (toll-free, quick delivery of non-systems products); Sun Microsystems Computer Corporation engineering (develops workstations and servers) and Westford Supply Unit (manufacturing facility); Sun Microsystems Laboratories (research and development arm); SunSelect (offers products that integrate UNIX(R) systems with personal computing resources); and SunSoft (develops and sells system software). The project architects are Elkus/Manfredi of Boston and Robert Luchetti Associates of Cambridge; the general contractors are Turner Construction of Boston and Cutler Associates of Worcester. As a large employer with several years of history in the Boston area, Sun participates in the community through several programs. In June 1992, the Sun Microsystems Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit charitable organization, awarded $82,500 to seven organizations in the greater Merrimack Valley north of Boston: Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association of Greater Lowell, Inc.
