---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Florida SunFlash Novell Netware Client for Sun from Spry SunFLASH Vol 44 #6 August 1992 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a third party product announcement from Dave Pool (dave@spry.com), President of Spry Inc. This software allows a Sun to access files that reside on a Novell Netware server via the Novell IPX protocol. I.e. with this software, a Sun can be added into an existing Netware network as another client. It complements the recent SunSelect announcement of SunLink Netware, which allows Novell Netware clients (usually PC's) to access a Sun via the IPX protocol. I.e. with this software, a Sun can be added into an existing Netware network as another server. (I guess this means that a Sun with Spry's Netware Client could get file services from another Sun running SunSelect's NetWare SunLink with the IPX protocol.) -johnj ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sun Workstations can now attach directly to the Novell Servers for File and Print access to any Novell Server on the network. SQL Transport: Novell users could attach directly to Sun Workstation using IPX instead of TCP/IP, thus PC's do not have to load both protocols. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spry Announces Netware Client for Sun ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- July 30, 1992 -- Seattle, WA -- Spry, Inc., today introduced NetWare Client for UNIX. This software enables a UNIX workstation to become a NetWare compatible client for file and print services from the NetWare server. This permits users running Unix applications to share data with NetWare LANs using native Unix commands. Since many applications now have common file formats this greatly improves the integration of Unix workstations and Novell NetWare LANs. Spry NetWare Client for UNIX provides transparent file and printer sharing between NetWare servers and Unix workstations. The Unix workstation is able to map directories to the Novell file server where files and data are stored in standard NetWare form. Any Netware files can be accessed by the Unix workstation through the directories mapped to that NetWare server. Unix printers can also be mapped into Novell print queues for transparent access to any printer on the Novell network from applications on the Unix workstation. Spry NetWare Client for UNIX provides an IPX/SPX protocol stack and NetWare redirector for the Unix workstation. There are no changes required on the NetWare server. SunOS version 4.1.1 and higher are supported. Spry NetWare Client for UNIX is shipping and priced from $995 for a single user version on SunOS. Site licenses are available for corporate accounts. Spry, Incorporated, founded in 1987, specializes in software products allowing PCs to run multiple protocols such as IPX, TCP/IP, NetBEUI, VINES IP, DECnet, and XNS concurrently.
