---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Florida SunFlash Sun Unveils ShowMe Computer Conferencing Software SunFLASH Vol 44 #2 August 1992 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sun Unveils Easy-To-Use Computer Conferencing Software With "ShowMe(TM)," Workstation Users Don' Have to Meet to Have a Meeting MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--August 3, 1992--SunSolutions(TM), a product development venture within Sun Technology Enterprises, today introduced ShowMe, an easy-to-use computer conferencing software product. ShowMe software lets SPARC(R) workstation users conduct on-line meetings, allowing groups to view and interactively collaborate on documents, graphics, spreadsheets and other images over a TCP/IP network. Using on-screen markers, participants in a ShowMe conference can annotate shared documents simultaneously in real time, so users interact and communicate much the same way they would in a meeting room. ShowMe software is the first easy-to-use, full-featured product in the emerging computer conferencing market. On-line conferencing products go beyond so-called "shared whiteboards" because they allow graphics and images as well as text to be shared across the network by multiple users. The product is based on the intuitive OPEN LOOK(R) graphical user interface and is easy to learn. With the ShowMe product, users can quickly distribute documents or images to the display screens of other participants, allowing for instant feedback. For example, a participant could "snap" or select a portion of a spreadsheet, and that portion instantly and automatically becomes visible to every other participant. The participants can then discuss and mark up the data. If a change is needed, a user can simply click on the ShowMe patent-pending Active Window, make the change, and simply click snap again to share the modified spreadsheet with the rest of the group. "ShowMe software lets you hold a meeting without leaving your office--or, to look at it a different way, lets you bring your whole office with you to meetings," said Byron Ryono, director and general manager of SunSolutions. "Workstations are built for networking, so the workstation market is the perfect proving ground for collaborative products, and ShowMe is the perfect product to exploit the growing niche for easy-to-use interactive conferencing software." Professionals in a wide range of technical and commercial markets can use ShowMe software to collaborate on projects. Key application areas for the product include CASE, CAD, medical imaging, finance, real estate, retail, telemarketing, and government. Pricing and Availability ShowMe is a shrink-wrapped, channel-ready software product, and will ship in the summer of 1992.
