---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Florida SunFlash NetMake(TM) Dramatically Reduces Compilation Time SunFLASH Vol 40 #32 April 1992 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a third party announcement from: Lauren Seidl Aggregate Computing, Inc lauren@aggregate.com 1-800-966-1666 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- (March 1992, Minneapolis, Minnesota) The next generation of tools for distributed computing has arrived. Joan Wrabetz, founder and president of the Minneapolis-based Aggregate Computing, Inc., has announced that the company will introduce its first product, NetMake, at the Sun World Expo on April 7-9 in Santa Clara, California. NetMake, a distributed parallel version of the UNIX(R) make utility, allows software developers to compile individual program modules on separate machines on a computer network. NetMake takes individual routines, sends them to appropriate remote machines to be compiled in parallel, and collects the results on one machine to perform the linking process. With NetMake, the network becomes the computer. Part of the NetWorks(TM) suite of distributed computing products, NetMake was developed using a common technology that enables resource sharing in a multi-vendor environment. The underlying NetWorks Services support the uniform management of computing resources throughout the network. NetMake decreases compilation time, improves developer productivity, and makes efficient use of all network resources. NetMake reduces compile times by as much as a factor of five, sometimes more. With NetMake, developers can use networks of machines as a single, aggregate computing resource. And NetMake is easy to install, easy to configure, and easy to use. "NetMake is for software developers who now work inefficiently because the tools they have are primitive," says Ms. Wrabetz. "It's part of the next generation of tools that will not just use the network, but also make it automatic and intelligent." Many developers spend a lot of time waiting for compiles to finish. They may even have to run long compiles overnight. NetMake allows developers to reduce short compiles enough to continue their work uninterrupted and run long compiles in a fraction of the time. NetMake is available now on Sun(TM) platforms, with support for additional platforms to follow. The introductory price for the product is $5000 for a five-node package. Additional nodes are priced at $1400 per node. Call 1-800-966-1666 ext. 82 or send e-mail to nw_info@aggregate.com for a FREE 30 day trial.
