---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Florida SunFlash Sun Makes Joe Roebuck VP Worldwide Field Operations SunFLASH Vol 40 #20 April 1992 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- William G. Marr Appointed Vice President of SMCC's U.S. Field Operations MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., April 14, 1992 -- Sun Microsystems, Inc., today announced the appointment of Joseph P. Roebuck as vice president of worldwide field operations for its Sun Microsystems Computer Corporation (SMCC) operating company. Roebuck replaces former vice president of worldwide field operations, Carol A. Bartz, who resigned to join Autodesk, Inc., of Sausalito, Calif., as president, chief executive officer and chairman. Roebuck has most recently served as vice president of SMCC's U.S. field operations, which produces approximately half the company's worldwide sales. Roebuck joined Sun in 1983 as vice president of sales, moving into his current position in 1987, and has thirty years' experience in computer industry sales and marketing. "I am pleased that Joe Roebuck has agreed to this new assignment," stated Scott G. McNealy, Sun's president, chairman and chief executive officer. "Joe is one of the people who has really helped to build Sun, and we are lucky to have someone of his experience and skill leading SMCC's worldwide field operations." Roebuck's new responsibilities begin immediately. Replacing Roebuck as vice president of SMCC's U.S. field operations is William G. Marr, who joined Sun Microsystems in 1985 as regional director for the central area of U.S. field operations. He was appointed vice president of central area operations in 1987 and was honored as Area Vice President of the Year in 1988, 1989 and 1990. Marr has served as vice president of corporate purchasing and most recently was vice president and general manager of SunPics, a business unit of Sun Microsystems, Inc., focused on providing UNIX-based printing and imaging solutions. Marr reports directly to Roebuck in his new position. "Bill Marr is an aggressive, competent and experienced sales executive who fully understands the requirements of running U.S. field operations," Roebuck said. "He is highly regarded by his colleagues in the field who will be well served by his experience at Sun and in the computer industry." Commenting on Ms. Bartz's departure, McNealy stated, "We will deeply miss Carol as a valued colleague and member of the management team, but we are proud and happy for her as she undertakes her new responsibilities at Autodesk. As head of marketing, Sun Microsystems Federal, field service and, most recently, SMCC worldwide field operations, Carol has always been one of my trusted executives whose capable management has been a major contributor to Sun's success over the years. I am most grateful for her development of a strong field operations management team which, I am confident, will quickly embrace its new responsibilities." ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ For information send mail to info-sunflash@sunvice.East.Sun.COM.
