	New Business Joins UNIX and Personal Computer Environments, 
		Giving Users the Best of Both Worlds
	
BILLERICA, Mass. -- April 13, 1992 -- Sun Microsystems, Inc., today
introduced SunSelect(TM), a new business dedicated to integrating
personal computing resources with open, UNIX(R) -based client-server
environments.

In the past, computer users have had to choose between two seemingly
incompatible worlds: personal computer and UNIX environments. Today,
SunSelect lets users select the resources they need from either world
-- and access them from whatever computer is on their desktop. By
integrating UNIX and personal computer environments, SunSelect products
give users the best of both worlds. They bring the power of
mixed-vendor networking, remote file sharing and client-server
computing to personal computer users, and they give UNIX workstation
users access to the full range of personal computing applications and
resources. In so doing, SunSelect products maximize customers' previous
investments in technology and training while extending their computing
options.

SunSelect offers three primary product lines: the PC-NFS(R) family, a
group of products that allow personal computer platforms to take
advantage of UNIX-based multivendor environments; the SunPC(TM) line of
high-performance personal computer emulation products, which enable
SPARC(R) workstation users to run MS-DOS(R) and MS-Windows(R)
applications; and NetWare(R) SunLink(R), a software product that
connects Novell(R) NetWare LANs to SPARC server systems.

SunSelect brings six years of Sun Microsystems experience in PC/UNIX
integration to the market. SunSelect's installed base for PC-NFS
software alone now exceeds 700,000 seats -- a number that surpasses its
parent's installed base of workstations and servers.

"There are 80 million personal computer users and 200,000 PC
applications out there," said Scott McNealy, chairman and CEO of Sun
Microsystems, Inc. "When you combine that with Sun's own installed base
of UNIX workstations, that's an enormous market, and a huge opportunity
for a company that can bring those two worlds together. And that's what
SunSelect does. SunSelect gives customers more power and more choices
-- whether they're in the PC arena or the UNIX world."

SunSelect products are distributed directly through SunSelect, through
local Sun Microsystems Computer Corp. (SMCC(TM)) sales offices,
SunExpress(TM) and authorized SunSelect resellers and other
distribution channels.

SunSelect will maintain its headquarters in Billerica, Mass, and will
be managed by Carl S. Ledbetter, newly appointed vice president of Sun
Microsystems, Inc., and general manager of SunSelect.  Sun
Microsystems, Inc., headquartered in Mountain View, Calif., is a
leading worldwide supplier of network-based distributed computing
solutions, including professional workstations, servers and UNIX
operating system and productivity software.
