---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Florida SunFlash SunVision 1.2 SunFLASH Vol 40 #13 April 1992 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- New Accelerator Support - Support for GS and GT graphics accelerators including full 24-bit support from SunIPLib and RenderMan OpenWindows Version 3 Server Support (Required) Internationalization Support - Level 3 I18N compliance for development of localized applications SunVision 1.2 adds several new capabilities to SunVision, including the ability to run on Sun's GS and GT accelerators, support for the Open- Windows Version 3 server, and Internationalization support for localization. FEATURES AND BENEFITS --------------------- With the added GS and GT support, users can now do full 24-bit rendering and image processing. SunVision 1.2 extends support of SunVision across Sun's entire line of color framebuffers and graphics accelerators. SunVision is *not* directly accelerated on the GT, but rather uses Xlib for rendering. SunVision 1.2 incorporates Level 3 internationalization, including `8-bit clean' characters (ISO 8859-1). Developers of applications using SunVision libraries can now construct localized applications for their users. Alter- natively, SunVision 1.2 tools (SunIP, SunVoxel, SunGV, SunART, etc) can be localized simply by providing an alternate "message" file in the language desired. However, the Kanji character set is not directly supported. SunVision 1.2 requires OpenWindows Version 3 window system. SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE CONSIDERATIONS ------------------------------------ - SunVision 1.2 from Sun supports the following hardware and software: CPUs: Sun-4, SPARC Systems OS: SunOS 4.1.2 (Required) Window System: Open Windows Version 3 (Required) Display Devices:GX, GX+, GS, GT, color frame buffers (excluding CG5) - SunVision 1.2 does *not* obsolete SunVision 1.1. SunVision 1.1 will continue to be orderable for customers who must run OpenWindows Version 2 or those with VX/MVX accelerators. - SunVision 1.2 is distributed on CD media only. (Existing contracts requiring 1/4" tape are being fulfilled.) N O T E ------- SunVision 1.2 uses Direct Graphics Access (DGA) to accelerate on the GS accelerator. SunVision 1.2 is *not* accelerated on the GT. While it will run on the GT, and can display 24-bit images, performance on the GT is less than the GS and GX. Use SunVision on the GT only if you are also using the GT for other applications. VX/MVX USERS AND SUNVISION 1.2 ------------------------------ Existing VX/MVX users can obtain SunVision 1.2 directly from Vicom by early April. SunVision 1.2 on VX/MVX, from Vicom is completely compatible with SunVision 1.2 from Sun. Pricing for SunVision from Vicom is the same as SunVision 1.2 from Sun.
