SunExpress joins other recently created subsidiaries: Sun Microsystems Computer Corporation (SMCC), SunSoft, Sun Technology Enterprises and Sun Microsystems Laboratories. Based in Methuen, Mass. (near Boston), SunExpress offers a toll-free number, extended business hours, knowledgeable telesales representatives, and quick delivery. More than 95 percent of SunExpress orders are delivered within three business days, and in some cases, within 48 hours. The company's catalog includes expansion hardware, accessories, computer supplies, software, printing and communications products and peripherals. The company does not sell any system products. SunExpress will initially serve end users and value-added resellers throughout the United States; estimates of first-year revenues are in excess of $150 million. The company plans to expand operations internationally over the next six months. SMI also announced that Dorothy Terrell has been appointed as SunExpress president. She will report directly to SMI president, Scott McNealy. Terrell, a 15-year veteran of Digital Equipment Corporation, most recently managed DEC's high-density interconnect and multi-chip module operations, overseeing a $300 million budget and some 1,000 employees. SunExpress operates between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. (EST). The company accepts major credit cards, and honors SMCC corporate accounts.
