The conference provides the opportunity for engineers, scientists, third-party vendors, end users, developers, executives, and others to listen, share experiences, and learn how to better deal with both hardware and software decisions facing Sun and SPARC users today. The theme of this year's conference is: "DISTRIBUTED APPLICATIONS AND MULTIPROCESSOR TECHNOLOGY" and will feature... *Nearly 100 sessions and panels. In addition to presentations centering on the theme of the conference, also featured will be talks in the following five categories: Instructional, System Administration, Performance Analysis, Scientific Computing and Commercial Applications. *Tutorials will run all day Sunday, December 8. There will be eight tutorials which will run concurrently. The tutorial registration fee is $175.00 either pre-registered or on-site. (This fee is separate from the conference registration fee.) Classes will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. *Over 200 exhibits housed in a 100,000 sq.ft. convention center, will make this year's exhibit the largest in our history, doubling the size of last year's show. T2: "WRITING DESTRIBUTED APPLICATIONS USING THE ONC PLATFORM" (John Corbin, University of Texas-El Paso and Sun Microsystems) Provides an overview of the Open Network Computing (ONC) platform which includes the eXternal Data Representation (XDR) and Remote Procedure Call (RPC) library routines. T3: "MICRO-KERNEL TECHNOLOGY" (Lori Grob & Marc Rozier, Chorus Systemes) This tutorial introduces and explains the basic concepts and issues in micro-kernel technology based on Chorus, a product of the Chorus Systemes Company and Mach, a project at Carnegie-Mellon University. T4: "BASIC X CONCEPTS" (Berry Kercheval, Intelligent Decisions) This tutorial will give the attendee a solid grounding in the concepts and techniques needed to begin writing applications for the X Window System. T5: "INTRODUCTION TO THE DOMAIN NAME SYSTEM" (Bill LeFebvre, Northwestern University) This course is an introduction to DNS. It will describe the theory and operation of the DNS system. It will also provide instructions and guidelines for the installation and operation of DNS on a Sun. T6: "UNIX ADMINISTRATION FOR VMS SYSTEM MANAGERS; OR, VMS+UNIX = OIL+WATER?" (Ruth Milner, NRAO/VLA) This tutorial will offer suggestions to system administrators faced with running two very different operating systems (UNIX & VMS), and provide some strategies for making migration easier. T7: "X AND THE ADMINISTRATOR" (Dinah McNutt, Pencom Software) X11R5,X11R4 and Xt pose problems for the systems administrator as well as the user: this tutorial will help administrators understand and solve these problems.
