XGL supplies a rich set of 2-D and 3-D graphics primitives for applications that maintain control of the display data. Optimized for Sun's complete family of graphics hardware, XGL 2.0 adds support for the GS, GT, and GXplus graphics accelerators. The new release features 24-bit TrueColor and advanced 3-D rendering technology. Support for NURBS curves, as well as sophisticated lighting and shading algorithms make XGL well suited to MCAD, animation and simulation markets. In addition, the broad 2-D feature set and highly optimized 2-D pipeline in XGL is ideal for ECAD application development. Tight integration with the window system allows XGL and Xlib to seamlessly use the same window. Across the network, XGL transparently uses the capabilities of Xlib to display graphics on remote machines. And, XGL supports all Sun SPARC systems with color frame buffers. The XGL 2.0 runtime libraries are co-bundled with the OpenWindows Version 3 CD-ROM. The XGL 2.0 Developer's Environment is available separately. SMCC will continue to support XGL 1.0 for Sun-3 systems only. FEATURES AND BENEFITS --------------------- Window system integration XGL and Xlib can render into same canvas, share colormaps and input Graphics accelerator support Optimal performance on GS, GT, GX and GXplus 24-bit TrueColor rendering More realistic looking rendering from a palette of 16.7 million colors Internationalized text and Global versions can be easily error message handling localized. Easy international deployment of graphics applications Computer Graphics Metafile support Efficient storage and interchange between a diverse body of CAD applications. Double Buffering Enables smooth animation Support for NURBS curves Smoother, more realistic curves Shading/lighting algorithms Flat and Gouraud (smooth) shading; unlimited number of light sources Transparent networked graphics Users can display graphics on remote machines without modifying code Separate 2-D, 3-D rendering pipelines Maximum performance; 2-D applications do not have 3-D calculation overhead Direct Graphics Access to Faster performance on any color unaccelerated color frame buffers SPARC system HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE CONSIDERATIONS ------------------------------------ o Systems supported: any Sun SPARC with color frame buffer running SunOS 4.1.1 or later and OpenWindows Version 3 o No SunView support o No Sun-3 support U.S. PRICING AND INFORMATON --------------------------- THE FOLLOWING APPEAR ON BOTH THE END USER AND RESELLER PRICE LISTS.
