---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Florida SunFlash Rock Ridge CD-ROM Premastering Software SunFLASH Vol 35 #15 November 1991 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a third party announcement from Thomas Stapleton of Young Minds, Inc. -johnj ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unix software publishers can now place multiple binaries for multiple computer platforms on the same CD-ROM. Discs formatted using the new "Rock Ridge" extensions enable endusers to operate their Unix software binaries directly off the CD-ROM. Young Minds, Inc.(YMi), announces a new "Rock Ridge" version of "Makedisc", the leading CD-ROM formatting utility for creating discs that fully support the ISO 9660 and X/Open XCDR standards. This software creates POSIX-compliant CD-ROM disc images that are ready for in-house testing, CD Write Once creation, or mastering at a CD-ROM production facility. The Rock Ridge specifications are the Unix industry's proposed standard for handling POSIX file names and other file system semantics on CD-ROM. It supports long (255+ character) file names, upper and lower case characters, deep directories and symbolic links, as well as many other features Unix users require. Today Rock Ridge is rapidly becoming the defacto Unix CD-ROM standard as it becomes adopted by more and more major computer companies. Companies committed to providing Rock Ridge CD-ROM driver support for their Unix operating systems include Sun, HP, DEC, Sony, Interactive, SCO, and Silicon Graphics, among others. Most ISO 9660 CD-ROMs currently distributed by Unix-based software vendors, computer manufacturers and multimedia publishers are formatted with "Makedisc". It is an extremely easy to use program and requires no dedicated hardware. "Makedisc" is Available on the following platforms: Sun SPARC, Sun 3&4, HP9000, DEC, NeXT, IBM RS/6000, SCO Xenix, Interactive, MIPS, 88open and Apollo systems.
