---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Florida SunFlash FloppyWorks File Transfer Software for Sun SunFLASH Vol 30 #23 June 1991 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a third part product announcement from: David Lewis Technical Support Digital Instrumentation Technology, Inc. 505-662-1459 FAX 505-662-0897 72317.3304@compuserve.com -johnj ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Read, write, and format Macintosh(TM) (1.44MB), MS-DOS(TM), and Sun(TM) diskettes. - Share information with Mac, PC, and Sun users anywhere. - Share peripheral devices such as color printers and scanners connected to Macs and PCs. Have you ever wondered what the floppy drive in your SPARCstation is for? FloppyWorks! Just put in a diskette, and FloppyWorks figures out whether it is DOS, Mac, or UNIX(TM) and makes it available to you. No more struggling with arcane commands like "bar", "tar", and "mount". FloppyWorks transfers both the resource fork and the data fork of Mac files. What's more, FloppyWorks assigns the file type and creator for transfers from the Sun to the Mac so the proper icon appears on the Mac desktop and Mac programs will recognize the file. FloppyWorks is 100% compatible with version 4.1 or greater of the Sun operating system. Fast File Transfers ------------------- FloppyWorks copies files as much as 7 times faster than Sun OS DOS transfers. A file transfer that takes 5 minutes using Sun OS DOS will take less than a minute with FloppyWorks! UNIX and Mac transfers are equally fast. Easy-to-Use UNIX-Like Commands ------------------------------ You won't have to learn an entirely new set of commands since FloppyWorks commands are modelled after their UNIX counterparts. FloppyWorks lets you navigate through directories and manage files on the floppy diskette as if they were part of the Sun file system. If you aren't familiar with UNIX, you can always get a list of commands by typing "help" at the FloppyWorks prompt. In addition, we have provided a command line mode so that you can easily put FloppyWorks commands into UNIX shell scripts for daily backups or standard file transfers. To make FloppyWorks even easier to use, an Open Look version will be coming soon. Painless Transfers with Character Filters ----------------------------------------- Character filters are included for translating control character sequences in ASCII data files. This feature can be a valuable time saver since Mac, DOS, and UNIX file systems use different control characters in files. For example, by adding a switch on the copy command, you can convert linefeeds to carriage returns during the copy operation.
