---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Florida SunFlash Aurora Technologies Introduces SBox - the SBus Expansion Chassis SunFLASH Vol 30 #19 June 1991 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a third part product announcement from Aurora Technologies, Inc. auratek!skids@uunet.UU.NET (Brian Skidmore) -johnj ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CAMBRIDGE, MA June 14, 1991 -- Aurora Technologies, Inc., the leading vendor of add-on products for SPARC(tm) workstations, is pleased to announce the availability of the SBox(tm) expansion chassis. SBox is a fully integrated electrical enclosure and provides four new SBus slots, an internal power supply, and provisions for two half height SCSI storage devices. The SBox enclosure design is consistent with the "pizza box" form factor of Sun Microsystems' SPARCstation(tm) 1, 1+, and 2. "Because it facilitates the easy addition of new I/O functions, SBox allows users to derive much more from their SPARC workstation investment," stated John Ferguson, president of Arcadia Systems, Inc., a leading reseller of SPARC solutions, "...increasing the limited expansion capability of SPARC workstations makes them more attractive and much more versatile. We find SBox an excellent SPARC system promotional tool." The SBox expansion chassis consists of the SBox enclosure, a Host Interface Card, a Host Interface Cable, and User's Manual. It is compatible with SPARCstation 1, 1+, 2, and IPC. It has been successfully tested with Sun's Serial Parallel Controller Card, all Sun Frame Buffers, Raster Ops' SPARC Card TC Frame Buffer, all Aurora SBus Multiplexer products, and others. No software is required for SBox to operate. "We are very excited about the runaway success of SBox," said Dennis Daudelin, President of Aurora Technologies, Inc. "We sold out of our first three production runs in record time, which indicates that the value of SBox is immediately recognizable. Fortunately, we have the manufacturing capacity to handle the demand. The expansion capability that SBox offers, such as the ability to create large system configurations and to provide additional back up, can not be over estimated." Pricing and Availability The SBox expansion chassis is available now. The list price is $2195. Pricing for resellers and OEMs is available upon request.
