---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Florida SunFlash SunPHIGS 1.3 SunFLASH Vol 25 #20 January 1991 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- NEW SUNPHIGS RELEASE FOR SPARC... ...OPTIMAL TUNING FOR GS + FASTER GS Solids Performance + Higher Quality + Dynamic Library Support On December 14th, Release 1.3 of SunPHIGS begins shipping to customers. This release is SPARC only and provides for: FASTER GS Solids Performance + Up to 65% faster than SunPHIGS 1.2 Dynamic Library Support- + Applications can link dynamically to PHIGS libraries Higher Quality- + Many bug fixes since SunPHIGS 1.2 The primary reason for developing SunPHIGS 1.3 was to achieve optimal GS performance through PHIGS. SunPHIGS 1.3 successfully accomplishes this by achieving over 20K polygons and 150K 3D vectors through the GS. At the same time, SunPHIGS 1.3 maintains the same performance for the GX and dumb frame buffers as provided through release 1.2. Release 1.3 obsoletes Release 1.2 for Sun 4 workstations only. SunPHIGS 1.2 order numbers are changing to reflect that they are for Sun 3s only. Sun PHIGS customers should are encouraged to order SunPHIGS 1.3 unless they need Sun 3, TAAC, or GXP support. Even though SunPHIGS 1.3 does not add any new features or functionality for non-GS platforms, the overall quality of SunPHIGS 1.3 is higher than SunPHIGS 1.2 for all Sun 4 platforms. Since the API has not changed between the 1.2 and 1.3 releases, existing customers that are currently linked to SunPHIGS 1.2 only need to relink to the new 1.3 libraries.
