On October 30, SunSoft, a Sun Microsystems Incorporated Business, announced
availability of the OpenWindows Developer's Guide 3.0. SMCC will begin
shipping this release on December 16.

Application developers are under increasing pressure to quickly deliver
new products. OpenWindows Developer's Guide enables software engineers
to graphically and interactively design, edit and test an OPEN LOOK user
interface without writing a single line of code. Engineers are able to
concentrate on their application code versus the user interface code.
DevGuide 3.0 supports the XView, Olit and TNT toolkits allowing developers
to choose the toolkit which best fits their needs.

DevGuide 3.0 has incorporated many new features. Internationalization and
localization of an application's GUI is significantly eased through use
of DevGuide. A new graphical connection scheme, interface browser,
project manager and object layout facility are also new in DevGuide 3.0.
DevGuide also facilitates integration with the online help facility and
the OPEN LOOK drag and drop feature.

DevGuide is a key component to Sun's developer strategy. An OPEN LOOK GUI
builder eases the porting burden for ISV and end user developers thus making
the Sun platform more attractive to new applications.

Q:	Are DevGuide 1.1 GIL files compatible with DevGuide 3.0?

A:	Yes. Any work done with the previous release of
	DevGuide is compatible with release 3.0.

Q:	Will SunSoft sell DevGuide to other SPARC vendors?

A:	Yes, SunSoft is chartered with promoting this product to all SPARC
	platforms. DevGuide helps bring applications to the SPARC platform
	and more applications on the SPARC platform will increase demand
	for both SPARC hardware and Solaris software.

Q:	What is internationalization and localization?

A:	It is Sun's goal to enable software vendors to deliver a single
	binary to any country. Internationalization and localization are the
	processes which must be applied to an application to enable a single
	binary to work in any foreign language environment. DevGuide eases
	this process for the GUI portion of the application.
