---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Florida SunFlash UniForum Association's UNIX Products Directory SunFLASH Vol 36 #5 December 1991 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a brief article that describes the UniForm Association with a particular emphasis on the UNIX Products Directory. I use this directory quite frequently to locate products and vendors. It contains many UNIX products for Sun that are not listed in Sun's Catalyst catalog. It also lists many products that could be ported to Sun. Note that the 1992 version will be out next month. -johnj ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Uniforum's 1991 UNIX Products Directory is published to promote trade and communications within the UNIX community. UniForum is a nonprofit, vendor-independent trade association dedicated to the promotion of UNIX and open systems-related products and services through the exchange of information and cooperative efforts of its individual members, corporate sponsors and affiliate groups. Founded in 1980, the UniForum association (then called/usr/group) published the first independent catalog of UNIX products and services in 1981. Today, UniForum provides numerous services to its thousands of broad-based members. UniForum members enjoy the news value and product information found in the association's wide-ranging publications. CommUNIXations, the monthly member magazine, covers timely topics of interest to users and developers in the UNIX systems community, features regular columns on technical and business topics, and keeps members up-to-date on the association's happenings. UniNews, the bi-weekly newsletter, covers UNIX industry news, offers and analysis on key issues that concern users and summarizes new product announcements. The UNIX Resources Guide, the association's services-only directory, features market overviews and key listings for vendors providing services in employment search, market research, books and publications, conferences and shows, and training. Sources for public domain software and more than 60 international and regional UNIX user groups are also included in the second edition. Technical publications and white papers, such as the Explored series of documents, update members on standards issues. UniForum members also receive discounts on X/Open publications. UniForum also sponsors annual conferences, UNIX seminars and symposiums. Foremost is the annual UniForum conference and trade show, the world's largest exposition of UNIX products and services with more than 270 vendors exhibiting at the 1991 show. The Executive UniForum Symposium is an annual forum for MIS professionals that explains the issues, ideas and concepts behind open systems strategies and proposes solutions and new directions. The association promotes further growth through sponsorship of the UniForum Technical Committee and the Affiliate Group program. Twenty-seven local, regional and internation UNIX user groups currently participate in UniForum's Affiliate Group program. For more information on the UniForum association and its services, refer to the numerous UniForum product listings throughout the Directory.
