MAI Systems, a leading international reseller of hardware and software business solutions, will sell Sun workstations and servers as well as market a new full-featured set of accounting modules it designed specifically for Sun's client/server environment. According to Dataquest, the number of workstations used for commercial applications will grow 63.4 percent between 1989 and 1994. Sun's relationship with MAI will allow it to leverage this growth and further penetrate commercial industries such as manufacturing, wholesale distribution, retail, hospitality and construction/property management. "We want commercial customers to have ready access to total solutions -- hardware, third-party software like MAI and other add-ons -- to give them a competitive edge," said Larry Hambly, vice president of marketing at Sun. Under terms of the agreement, MAI will develop and distribute MAI Advanced Solutions(TM) software for Sun systems. This accounting software includes general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and fixed asset solutions. The new product will make full use of the latest Sybase(TM) relational database management system and the OPEN LOOK(R) graphical user interface. The system will run stand alone or in a distributed environment to better support Fortune 1000 companies and small to medium-sized businesses. With MAI's OpenBASIC(TM), an enhanced development environment for Business BASIC, the company's installed base of worldwide customers will also be able to run their existing Business BASIC vertical market applications along with the wide range of UNIX(R)-based applications on Sun's systems..
