Phillip Samper Appointed to Board of Directors SunFLASH Vol 28 #21 April 1991 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. --April 29, 1991-- Sun Microsystems, Inc., (SUNW) announced today that J. Phillip Samper has been appointed to its board of directors. Samper is a former vice chairman and executive officer of Eastman Kodak Company and served as president and chief executive officer of Kinder-Care Learning Centers, Inc. He is presently a private investor. Samper's experience as a senior operations executive at Eastman Kodak and his international experience in Europe and Latin America will be especially valuable for Sun as a global company deriving half its revenue from outside the United States. Samper joined Eastman Kodak in 1961 and subsequently held a series of management posts in the company's international and marketing divisions. In 1983, he was named general manager of Eastman Kodak's Photographic Division, elected an executive vice president and also named to the company's board of directors. With the formation of the Office of the Chief Executive in 1986, Samper was named vice chairman and executive officer. He retired from Eastman Kodak in 1989. Samper graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1960. He received his graduate degree in international management from the American School of International Management in 1961; he was awarded the Sloan Fellowship and received a master of science degree in management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1973. Samper also serves on the board of directors for Armstrong World Industries and the Interpublic Group. In addition, he is a member of the University of California at Berkeley School Advisory Board.
