Portable OpenWindows Source, Sun's newest fully integrated windowing environment, implements the OPEN LOOK graphical user interface jointly developed by Sun and AT&T's UNIX System Laboratories (USL). "INTERACTIVE has demonstrated its commitment to the SPARC-compatible community through its successful SunOS licensing and porting services," said Edward J. Zander, president of Sun's newly established systems software subsidiary. "The addition of Portable OpenWindows to the ISC portfolio gives developers a one-stop-shopping option." "This agreement is a logical progression in our successful relationship with Sun. As a distributor, INTERACTIVE satisfies customer needs by providing access to Sun technology and additional value through custom consulting services," said Dennis M. Peck, president and CEO of INTERACTIVE. "Portable OpenWindows augments our SPARC product offerings and allows us to supply users with an increased level of competitiveness". OpenWindows is bundled with Sun workstations and includes an X11 server. The product which supports both X11 and PostScript-compatible NeWs applications is delivered in portable form for simpler adaption to other platforms. Distributed on 5 1/4" tapes, Portable OpenWindows includes: * X11/NeWS Server * Sun's OPEN LOOK toolkit with SunView-like programming interface * AT&T's OPEN LOOK intrinsics-based toolkit * 57 Scalable F3 Fonts and Typescaler (Folio fonts) * 4 Deskset applications: cmdtool, textedit, shelltool, and clock. * The OPEN LOOK window manager Accompanying documentation includes end-user and programmer manuals, and source/porting documentation. The source code bundle will be licensed to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) of Sun-compatible and other workstations, as well as Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) developing customized OpenWindows applications. INTERACTIVE will distribute two types of licenses; one for commercial redistribution of object-code version and a second for internal use.
