---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Florida SunFlash SUN REPORTS WINS IN EASTERN EUROPE SunFLASH Vol 28 #1 April 1991 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Major Contracts in Poland; New Sun Resellers Added MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. --April 8, l991-- Sun Microsystems has been awarded a contract for the initial purchase of 50 Sun SPARCstation(TM) and SPARCserver(TM) products by the prestigious Polish Academy of Sciences (Polska Academia Nauk) in Warsaw, Poland. This was an initial order for Sun's complete line of SPARC(R) systems that will be used by the following organizations: 1. Institute of Technical Research will be using the Sun systems for theoretical and analytical mechanics, fluid mechanics, theory of plasticity, foil mechanics, behavior of new materials, and ultrasound applied in medical research and robotics. This institute is engaged in the design of sensors and software for visualizing and controlling the condition of complex systems in stress forecasting. This method of stress forecasting and analysis will be used by major airline manufacturers for the early identification of material wear and fatigue. 2. Institute of Systems Development is engaged in research on management models, environmental models and computer science. It is collaborating with the International Institute for Applied System Analysis in Austria, which is researching issues dealing with the environment, such as acid rain. 3. The Physics Institute is researching solid state physics, optics, electromagnetics, theoretical physics and superconductivity. It is involved in various collaborative projects with the University of Rochester in New York and the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Winning the contract for the Polish Academy of Sciences was COMP, one of Sun's authorized resellers in Poland. COMP was the first Polish company to be granted a license for the import of SPARC systems. Other New Sun Partners Sun is also represented in Czechoslovakia by one of its major distributors in Europe, ICL, and in Hungary by MTAZTAKI and ICON in Budapest.
