These books will be widely available to OPEN LOOK developers through numerous retail channels, including computer stores and bookstores worldwide. Two books are currently scheduled for publication in the winter of 1989 OPEN LOOK Graphical User Interface Application Style Guide and OPEN LOOK Graphical User Interface Functional Specification. OPEN LOOK is a clear, intuitive, point-and-click graphical user interface designed for a range of systems, including Sun workstations. Developed by Sun and AT&T using technology licensed from Xerox, it is comprised of a set of standard guidelines for an application's "look and feel," including such elements as icons, windows, menus and mouse operations. OPEN LOOK adds ease of use to UNIX(R) systems so that novice computer users can take advantage of UNIX features like multi-tasking. However, OPEN LOOK can be used on both UNIX and non-UNIX platforms. Application developers will find a complete description of the OPEN LOOK user interface specification in the two OPEN LOOK books. Written by the experts at Sun Microsystems, the books provide definitive and comprehensive information for application developers and programmers. The OPEN LOOK GUI Application Style Guide gives application developers the fundamental design principles used in OPEN LOOK and demonstrates how these principles should be applied to specific interface elements. The OPEN LOOK Graphical User Interface Functional Specification , directed toward toolkit developers, provides a detailed element-by-element description of the OPEN LOOK user interface specifications and shows exactly how each element should function within software applications. Publication of both books is scheduled for January 1990. The OPEN LOOK Graphical User Interface Style Guide will sell for $24.95 and the OPEN LOOK Graphical User Interface Functional Specification will sell for $34.95. The OPEN LOOK GUI will be included as a standard part of UNIX System V, Release 4 from AT&T, available to all UNIX system vendors in late 1989. Major supporters include Lotus, Unify and Oracle Corporation. Development toolkits for OPEN LOOK are available from Sun and AT&T. Sun Microsystems, Inc., headquartered in Mountain View, Calif., is a leading worldwide supplier of network-based distributed computing systems, including professional workstations, servers and UNIX operating system and productivity software. ### UNIX is a registered trademark of AT&T.
