               SunGKS 3.0 Now Shipping
	       -----------------------
 
SunGKS 3.0 had it's First Customer Ship (FCS) this week.
Here is a summary of key points.
 
   - SunGKS 3.0 on a Sparcstation 1 GX is FAST!  Best case benchmarks
     show 285,000 2D vectors/sec (256 - 10 pixel polylines). Early
     results from real applications are in the 125K range.

   - SunGKS 3.0 can fully utilize many third party I/O devices 
     such as Tek terminals, HPGL, non-HP plotters, tablets, etc.

   - SunGKS 3.0 supports multiple alphabets.

   - SunGKS 3.0 shipped as the highest quality product in Sun!  No bugs.

   - New orders, updates to customers on maintenance, and updates to
     all field sales office libraries will occur over the next 30 days.
  
   - SunGKS 3.0 on a Sun-4 supports SunOS 4.0, 4.0.1, and 4.0.3
     SunGKS on a Sun-3/80 and Sun-3/470 requires SunOS 4.0.3 and the 
     SunOS 4.0.3-GFX upgrade tape. This is contrary to the newest price 
     list, which says 4.0.3 is required on all platforms.  
     SunOS 3.5 and Sun-2 are not supported.

   - The GXP is not supported due to problems with 8-bit emulation.
 
   - SunGKS 2.2 is now obsolete and no longer orderable.  Sales
     office copies of 2.2 may be used to help customers in transition.
 
   - Graphics customers should obtain a copy of the new SunPHIGS/SunGKS
     Technical Note from their Sales Rep.
