EurOSInet was established in 1986 by IBM, DEC, ICL and Bull and has grown to more than 20 computer companies and organizations, becoming an important international body. EurOSInet works to get standards adopted -- such as OSI and X.400 -- and also provides a forum for manufacturers and suppliers to demonstrate interoperability between different systems. EurOSInet has already established strong links with similar organizations in other parts of the world, including OSInet in the United States and Singapore, Intapnet in Japan and OSIcom in Australia. Sun has joined EurOSInet as part of its ongoing commitment to standards and open computing. As a company with 25 percent of its revenue coming from the European market, Sun expects membership in EurOSInet to reinforce its presence in that region, noted Darryl Barbe, vice president and general manager of Sun's European operations. Sun Microsystems, Inc., headquartered in Mountain View, Calif., is a leading worldwide supplier of network-based distributed computing systems, including professional workstations, servers and UNIX operating system and productivity software. ### Press Contact: Karen Rohack (415) 336-7841
