-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NEW U.S. / CANADIAN SUN EDUCATION COURSE CATALOG SunFLASH Vol 12 #4 December 1989 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sun Educational Services has published a new U.S. and Canadian course catalog. This 1990 Winter/Spring catalog includes course information and a schedule for the January through June period. Customers whose names are in Sun's Educational Services database should receive the catalog by January 1st. Sales offices should receive their copies by the beginning of January too. NEW COURSES OFFERED ------------------- The Sun Education catalog contains course descriptions, objectives, prerequisites, pricing, location and scheduling information for all courses offered. Sun is announcing four new courses in this 1990 Winter/Spring version. An overview of these new courses is included below: C++ Language Programming (course number: SL-240) --------------------------------------------------- This course provides experienced C programmers with the basic C++ language skills needed to port existing C programs to C++ and to develop new application programs. Students without the prerequisite C skills will find the pace extremely brisk. This practical programming course is divided into 50% lecture and 50% lab. Productivity Skills for Your Sun Workstation EU-115 ---------------------------------------------------- This course improves workstation skills and helps students become more self-sufficient workstation users. Instructors emphasize practical skills and extensive hands-on training. You'll learn how to personalize your desktop environment and improve proficiency and productivity. The course teaches you how to personalize the SunView window system and the C shell to reflect the needs of your work environment; edit files using the SunView TextEditor, personalize your Mail Tool and create local and public mail-distribution lists using network services to access and share information between remote systems; and protect your files, directories and workstation from unauthorized access by other users. The course also covers basic workstation administration topics such as: properly booting and shutting down your workstation, performing disk backups, accessing remote printers, and automating routine workstation administrative tasks. This course is for users who want to gain greater independence from their system administrators. Though it is not a system administration course, it does cover networking, workstation security, and administration issues that benefit Sun workstation users. [Note: This class is not for beginning SunOS users nor is it a substitute for the SunOS for Users course.] Sun-3 and Sun-4 Workstation Differences SM-300 ----------------------------------------------- This class is for technical users and engineers who support Sun-3 or Sun-4 workstations and now need training to maintain other types of workstations. Instructors demonstrate the differences in architectures, emphasizing the physical and logical differences, machine and card configurations, commands, and diagnostics. Students learn to install, configure, diagnose, and verify Sun-3 or Sun-4 systems. This course is a combination of classroom activities and extensive hands-on practice. Instructors introduce malfunctions into each type of machine for troubleshooting experience. New Products Maintenance SM-310 -------------------------------- This class is for engineers who need training on how to support several new Sun workstations introduced since April 2, 1989. For engineers who already maintain Sun-3 and Sun-4 workstations, the course and segregated lab equipment allow students to concentrate on the specific workstation products they support. Exact machine availability may be confirmed through the Educational Services registrar at the 800 number listed below. The course is lab-intensive with malfunctions introduced into each workstation for diagnosis.
