EDS TO BECOME COMMERCIAL SYSTEMS INTEGRATOR OF SUN WORKSTATIONS MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. --Aug. 17, 1989-- Sun Microsystems today announced that its master agreement with EDS has been expanded to include systems integration of Sun workstations in the commercial market. Before now, EDS has been a user and reseller of Sun workstations. The expanded agreement enables EDS to include Sun workstations -- particularly Sun's high-performance SPARC (TM) systems -- and other products as part of computing solutions tailored for large commercial users. The multi-year agreement is expected to produce at least $5 million annually in sales for Sun for products resold by EDS into the commercial market. EDS (Electronic Data Systems Corp.), the leader in the rapidly growing systems integration area, is a long-time reseller of Sun hardware used in engineering and manufacturing applications. In addition, the strong relationship between the two companies has led to joint product development projects. For example, Sun and EDS worked together on a version of Sun's standard Network File System (NFS (TM) ) networking software for IBM mainframes that use the MVS operating system. The agreement underscores the increasing demand for Sun systems in applications outside the traditional scientific and technical areas. To support this market expansion, Sun is turning to important systems integrators like EDS. "Our strategy is to work with companies like EDS rather than integrate systems ourselves, since the customer is best served this way," explained Ed Zander, vice president of corporate marketing at Sun. Sun Microsystems, Inc., headquartered in Mountain View, Calif., is a leading worldwide supplier of network-based distributed computing systems, including professional workstations, servers and UNIX(R) operating system and productivity software. ### Press Contact: Kay Hart: (415) 336-3561
