 SUN ANNOUNCES COMMITMENT TO INTEL i486(TM) PLATFORM 
 
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--April 10, 1989-- In conjunction with Intel
Corporation's i486(TM) microprocessor announcement today, Sun
Microsystems stated its intention to incorporate the chip into future
Intel-based workstations.

Sun's current Intel-based workstation, the Sun386i(TM), was introduced
April 6, 1988.  It was the first industry standard platform to fully
utilize the power of the 386(TM) chip's 32-bit architecture for
applications running under the UNIX operating system, plus use the 386
chip's virtual 8086 capability to tap the wealth of off-the-shelf DOS
applications in an integrated multi-tasking workstation.
