Any other special or non-generic installation instructions should be described below. Special Install Instructions: ----------------------------- Reboot the system after patch installation. NOTE 1: If possible, perform patch installation in single user mode. If this cannot be done, it is suggested that you have the system in as quiet a state as possible, that is, no users are logged on and no user jobs are running. NOTE 2: To get the complete fix for bug 4090929 (system panics due to infinite recursion in prrealvp) it is suggested that you install rev 01 (or newer versions) of the following patches: 105780-01 /kernel/fs/fifofs NOTE 3: To get the complete fix for 1237009 (users umask modifies ACLs of new files under default ACLs) and 4073684 (mkdir -p dir" and "mkdir dir" work differently in the presence of default ACLs), it is suggested that you install rev 01 (or newer versions) of the /usr/bin/mkdir patch: 106141-01 /usr/bin/mkdir As a result of this fix for 1237009, the umask/ACL interaction has changed. Please refer to the following paragraph for a revision to the manpage for the command 'setfacl,' which defines the new umask/ACL interaction. ************************************************************ A directory may contain default ACL entries. If a file is created in a directory that contains default ACL entries, the newly created file will have permissions generated according to the intersection of the default ACL entries and the permissions requested at creation time. The umask(1) will not be applied if the directory contains default ACL entries. If a default ACL is specified for a specific user (or users), the file will have a regular ACL created; otherwise, only the mode bits will be initialized according to the intersection described above. The default ACL should be thought of as the maximum discretionary access permissions that may be granted. ************************************************************* NOTE 4: For users running Java or other multithreaded applications, it is highly suggested that you install the linker patch, 105490-04 (or newer). NOTE 5: To get the complete fix for bug 4125102 (ufs_itrunc()/ top_end_async() deadlock) it is suggested that you install 106625-06 (or newer) plus the following SDS patches: SDS4.1 sparc 104172-17 (or newer) SDS4.2 sparc 106627-05 (or newer) NOTE 6: To get the complete fix for bug 4232237 (bug in the POSIX Message Queue) it is suggested that you install 106797-03 (or newer). NOTE 7: The fix for bug 4116873 causes wait i/o numbers to be reported on a per cpu basis; this will generally have the effect of reducing its magnitude on MP systems. NOTE 8: To get the complete fix for bug 4224166 (TPI messages get flushed if 3rd party module processes M_PROTO in service procedure), bug 4162091 (fork in MT process can hang process in sockfs due to cv_wait/cv_wait_sig dependency) or bug 4290575 (2nd connect() to determine status of non-blocking connect sends extra Syn) it is suggested that you install 109417-01 (or newer). NOTE 9: To get the complete fix for bug 4253437 (Async I/O problem), it is suggested that you install 105210-32 (or newer). NOTE 10: It is suggested that SunMC 2.1.1 users install 110094-01 (or newer); SunMC 2.1 FCS users install 110151-01 (or newer); and SunMC 2.1 L10N users install 110152-01 (or newer). The fixes for bug 1256102 (improve survivability when encountering UE) and bug 4323971 (correctable error unum reporting is broken) change the log message strings for main memory errors. This causes the management console to under-report the occurrence of corrected main memory errors. The above patches add support for the new log message strings. It is suggested that SyMON 2.0 and 2.0.1 users upgrade to SunMC 2.1.1, and then install 110094-01 (or newer). NOTE 11: It is suggested that customers with PGX32 or GFXP framebuffers consider installing patch 107851-09 or 107715-10, or newer, as appropriate: o if pkginfo shows packages beginning with "TSIgfx..." then consider installing 107851-09 (or newer) o if pkginfo shows packages beginning with "TSIpgx..." then consider installing 107715-10 (or newer) Note 12: Fixes to bug 4390106 and 4396626 have been made to the E10000 Starfire platform only. Other platforms do not have these fixes. 4390106 drain fails to complete- abort detach hung 4396626 panic: rwlock_hword_exit: write lock held NOTE 13: To activate the fix for bug 4468181 (low priority TS threads on a sleep queue can be victimized),add the following line in /etc/system and reboot. set TS:ts_sleep_promote=1 NOTE 14: If you are using Alternate Pathing, you must also install AP 2.3.1 patch 110342-05 in order to get the complete fix for E10K bug 4554798 (dr_daemon: Segmentation Fault - core dumped) NOTE 15: To get the complete fix for bug 4090929 (system panics due to infinite recursion in prrealvp) we recommend installation of rev 01 (or newer) of the following patches: 105780-01 kernel/fs/fifofs NOTE 16: To get the complete fix for bug 4152975 (nfs services go to "sleep" on large, heavily loaded servers), we recommend that you also install rev 02 (or newer) of: 106639-02 /kernel/strmod/rpcmod patch NOTE 17: To get the complete fix for bug 4686943 (memcpy has stale data in the fp regs after a signal is delivered), we recommend that E10K customers also install E10K header file patch 108306-02 (or newer). 108306-02 usr/platform/sun4u1/include/sys/spitregs.h NOTE 18: To get the complete fix for bug 4009465 (msgpullup may fail and not report it), we recommend installation of the following patches: 105528-02 /kernel/drv/be patch 105924-18 kbd, se and zs drivers patch 107326-03 rlmod and telmod patch 108388-02 ptsl driver patch 108468-03 ldterm stream module patch 110128-04 SPC card Patch 111973-02 timod stream module patch ------------------ Known Interactions ------------------ 1. Interaction with Veritas Cluster Server (VCS) 1. Installing 105181-23 (or newer) with VxVm and an encapsulated root disk ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Some users have experienced problems when installing 105181-23 (or newer) with VxVm and an encapsulated root disk. However, this is believed to be a preexisting problem with the mirror and is in no way related to 105181-23 (or newer). To ensure proper installation, please read the following procedure. Note: *** It is not necessary to either unencapsulate root or break the mirror.*** 1) Ensure backups are current. 2) Make sure there are no issues with compatibility in README concerning other patches or lack of them. 3) Check mirror status (vxprint -ht): Looking for ENABLED / ACTIVE. nasc# vxprint -ht | more Disk group: rootdg DG NAME NCONFIG NLOG MINORS GROUP-ID DM NAME DEVICE TYPE PRIVLEN PUBLEN STATE V NAME USETYPE KSTATE STATE LENGTH READPOL PREFPLEX PL NAME VOLUME KSTATE STATE LENGTH LAYOUT NCOL/WID MODE SD NAME PLEX DISK DISKOFFS LENGTH [COL/]OFF DEVICE MODE SV NAME PLEX VOLNAME NVOLLAYR LENGTH [COL/]OFF AM/NM MODE dg rootdg default default 0 967503804.1025.nasc dm disk01 - - - - REMOVED dm rootdisk c3t11d0s2 sliced 2159 8380799 - sd rootdiskPriv - rootdisk 7311600 2159 PRIVATE c3t11d0 ENA v rootdisk6vol gen ENABLED ACTIVE 21600 ROUND - pl rootdisk6vol-01 rootdisk6vol ENABLED ACTIVE 21600 CONCAT - RW sd rootdisk-04 rootdisk6vol-01 rootdisk 8337599 21600 0 c3t11d0 ENA pl rootdisk6vol-02 rootdisk6vol DISABLED REMOVED 21600 CONCAT - WO sd disk01-01 rootdisk6vol-02 disk01 0 21600 0 - RMOV 4) Reboot the system to multiuser. This ensures no other latent system config issues. 5) Take system down to single-user. 6) Install the patch. 7) Reboot the system to multiuser. 8) If problems occur, contact the Sun Enterprise Services Customer Care Center. 2. Interaction between 106629 and 105181-23 (or newer) ------------------------------------------------------ When customers see the message "this patch obsoleted by 106629-20," when trying to install the 2.6 KU -23 (or newer), they have possibly erroneously installed 106629-20 on a non-CS6400 machine. Later versions of patch 106629 will have the problem corrected by adding a pre-patch script which will prohibit installation on anything other than a CS6400 machine. The fix is to uninstall patch 106629. 3. Oracle Web-Server (3.0.2 or newer) ------------------------------------- The 105181-23 (or newer) patch requires patch 105210-32, which changes one of the functions that the oraweb code needs. With this patch, (105210-32) web listeners will not start. If you have this problem, the error "CANNOT ASSIGN NAME TO LOCK FILE" will occur. To fix this problem, customers need a new oraweb executable. Oracle has provided one in response to Oracle bug 1368568. The patch is available from the Oracle ftp site: ftp://oracle-ftp.oracle.com/server/patchsets/internet/SOLARIS/ows302/1368568 The OWS listeners will start as usual after the patch is installed. 4. Interaction with Veritas Cluster Server (VCS) ------------------------------------------------ Solaris servers that run Veritas Cluster Server (VCS) versions below version 1.3.0 and that apply the Kernel Patches containing the Improved Error Handling portion of the E-Cache changes 105181-23 (or newer) may experience unexpected behavior of the cluster node in the event of a reboot of a node due to an E-Cache, Memory, Bus Error, or Bus Timeout event (collectively, a "fatal error"). After the installation of the kernel patch, the system will gracefully reboot (as if the operator had entered an 'init 6' command) if a fatal error occurs to a user process. Previously, the system panicked on such errors. The reboot is preferable because it allows the file systems to be sync'd and prevents the generation of an unnecessary kernel core file. In VCS versions prior to 1.3.0 (in particular, in VCS versions 1.1.1 and 1.1.2), the kernel-initiated reboot is treated as an operator-initiated event, so VCS does not fail over the resources to the other node(s) in the cluster. After the reboot completes, then all resources must be manually restarted by the system administrator. Failure to fail over does not happen with the Veritas FirstWatch or Veritas Axxion products. These products fail over correctly on a kernel initiated reboot. This problem also does not occur on Sun's SunCluster product. This is the Veritas recommended fix for any system running Veritas Cluster Server from Veritas Development Engineering. Veritas Cluster Server version 1.3 will not exhibit this problem. The following is provided as a guideline to implement on servers running VeritasCluster Server (VCS) below 1.3.0 who have applied 105181-23 (or newer). If a customer chooses to have the node resources fail over in the event of a kernel-initiated reboot due to E-Cache, Memory, or Bus Error event, they should modify the /etc/rc0.d/K10vcs kill script, adding an ' -evacuate ' option to the HASTOP command line. FILE IS: .... case "$1" in 'start') if [ -z "$VCS_HOME" ] then $RM -f /etc/VRTSvcs/conf/$CONF_DIR/.lock else $RM -f $VCS_HOME/conf/$CONF_DIR/.lock fi $HASTART ;; 'stop') $HASTOP -local > /dev/null 2>&1 <---- This is the line ;; .... CHANGE TO: .... case "$1" in 'start') if [ -z "$VCS_HOME" ] then $RM -f /etc/VRTSvcs/conf/$CONF_DIR/.lock else $RM -f $VCS_HOME/conf/$CONF_DIR/.lock fi $HASTART ;; 'stop') $HASTOP -local -evacuate > /dev/null 2>&1 <---- This is the change .... ----------------------------- After installing the patch, here is how one goes about upgrading the firmware: 1. Enter the following command to see what the firmware level is for each SPARCstorage Array on your system: # /usr/sbin/ssaadm display controller where controller is either the logical controller name (given as cX) or the physical path of the controller (given as /devices/../../SUNW,soc@3,0/SUNW,plnaxxxxxx,xxxxxxxx:ctlr). For more information, see the ssaadm.1m man page. 2. Look at the output for a line similar to the following to find the firmware level: Firmware Rev: 3.xx 3. Determine if you need to upgrade the firmware. If the firmware level produced from the ssaadm command (Step 2) is lower than 3.12 then you must upgrade your firmware. Go to Step 4. If the firmware level produced from the ssaadm command (Step 2) is 3.12 or higher then you do not have to read any further in these instructions, since your firmware is already at the proper level. 4. If the firmware level produced from the ssaadm command is lower than 2.4 you MUST complete the following steps for those SPARCstorage Arrays that contain firmware revision lower than 2.4. If the firmware is 2.4 or higher you don't need to do step 4 so go to step 5. a) Enable the SSA fastwrite capability: # /usr/sbin/ssaadm fast_write -se b) Disable the SSA fastwrite capability: # /usr/sbin/ssaadm fast_write -sd where controller is either the logical controller name (given as cX) or the physical path of the controller (given as /devices/../../SUNW,soc@3,0/SUNW,plnaxxxxxx,xxxxxxxx:ctlr). CAUTION: This operation may take a few minutes to complete. Do NOT interrupt the operation before it is finished or the system may not be able to communicate with the SPARCstorage Array. 5. Download the SPARCstorage Array firmware to your SPARCstorage Array. If the host is booted off a SSA, the host MUST be rebooted for this operation. If the host is being rebooted only the steps 'e' and 'f' below need to be executed. The following steps must be completed on each SSA to download the firmware safely: a) Stop all I/O activity on the SPARCstorage Array. b) Perform a sync_data to the SSA: # /usr/sbin/ssaadm sync_cache c) Unmount any filesystems residing on the SSA disks. d) Stop all Veritas Volume manager (VxVA) volumes and/or Solistice Disk Suite (SDS) metadevices (if any) running on the SSA. Also insure that ownership of any SDS diskset metadevices have been released since an implicit I/O stream exists while ownership of a diskset is maintained. Please refer to the metaset(1M) manpage for details on taking/releasing ownership of disksets. e) Execute the ssaadm download command to download the new firmware: # /usr/sbin/ssaadm download -f /usr/lib/firmware/ssa/ssafirmware where controller is either the logical controller name (given as cX) or the physical path of the controller (given as /devices/../../SUNW,soc@3,0/SUNW,plnaxxxxxx,xxxxxxxx:ctlr). CAUTION: This operation may take a few minutes to complete. Do NOT interrupt the operation before it is finished or the system may not be able to communicate with the SPARCstorage Array. f) The SSA(s) will now needs to be reset for the changes to take effect. If the host is booted off an SSA then the host MUST be shutdown at this point. Reset your SSA(s) by pushing the SYS OK button in the back of the unit(s). This causes the SPARCstorage Array to reboot using the new revision of firmware. If your host boots off an SSA it can now be booted up again. g) Restart the Veritas Volume manager (VxVA) and/or SDS metadevices and reclaim ownership of any SDS diskset metadevices that were relinquished. h) Remount the filesystems that reside on the SSA disks. 6. The firmware download is now complete. I/O activity on the SPARCstorage Array can be restarted. 7. Reboot the system after patch installation. README -- Last modified date: Wednesday, March 31, 2004
