PPS-IPX/SPX for Solaris is a NetWare(R) compatible networking protocol. With PPS available on a Solaris server, NetWare clients can access key enterprise applications from the Solaris server with no change to the NetWare client environment. Applications that are written to the TLI interface will work with PPS (these include Sybase, Oracle, Informix, and Lotus Notes). PPS on a SPARC/Solaris-based system offers a scalable, high performance, high storage capacity alternative to server proliferation in NetWare environment. This product can be ordered and is shipping immediately. PPS-IPX/SPX requires Solaris 2.3 or later and is compatible with Novell NetWare 2.x, 3.x and 4.x clients versions. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 71.52: Solaris 1.1.2 Sun Microsytems Computer Company (SMCC) announces a new release of the 1.x operating system environment, Solaris(R) 1.1.2. The new release supports Sun's new high performance hyperSPARC(tm) CPU based SPARCstation(TM) 20 Model HS11. Sun continues to focus on releasing quality operating systems. Solaris 1.1.2 has over 100 bug fixes integrated into the source code and includes more than 75 OpenWindows(TM) 3.0 updated bug fixes. Integrating the bug fixes increases the stability of the 1.x environment and reduces most customer's installation time by at least 25%. Localized versions for Europe (French, German, Italian and Swedish), Japan, Korea, PRC and Taiwan are available. Solaris 1.1.2 is fully compatible with the previous 1.x releases. Solaris 1.1.2 will become SMCC's default Solaris 1.x release. Solaris 1.1.2 supports all SMCC platforms that were supported with the 1.1.1 Version B release. This includes SPARCstation ELC(TM), SPARCstation IPC(TM), SPARCstation IPX(TM), SPARCstation 2, SPARCclassic(TM), SPARCstation LX(TM), SPARCserver(TM) 600MP Model 120s and 140s, and SPARCstation 10 and SPARCstation 20 uniprocessor systems. Support now includes the new SPARCstation 20 Model HS11 and associated upgrade modules. Customers with support contracts must order this release. It will not ship automatically. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 71.53: SunISDN Enabling Kit and SunISDN Expansion Kit Sun Microsystems Computer Company (SMCC) announces new versions of the SunISDN(TM) Enabling Kit and the SunISDN Expansion Kit. SunISDN is compliant with international standards and certified in 14 countries across North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia. The SunISDN Enabling Kit 1.0.1 and Expansion Kit 1.0.1 support Euro-ISDN or ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute), the pan-European ISDN standard. The SunISDN Enabling Kit 1.0.2 and Expansion Kit 1.0.2 supports National ISDN-1, the equivalent North American standard. A good alternative to other high-speed WAN technologies, ISDN is preferred in many situations over the costly, permanent leased lines. SunISDN products are well suited for ISDN solutions that require voice, video, image and data sharing and transfer, such as internet access, distance learning, desktop conferencing, telecommuting, remote-office access, and tele-medicine. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 71.54: Type 5c Keyboard Extender Cable With the transition to the Type 5c keyboard, Sun is replacing the current 15 foot keyboard extender cable with the new Type 5c extender cable. The new keyboard extender cable will connect to the captive cable of the Type 5c keyboard for a total of 15 feet. The current Type 5 extender cable is not compatible with the Type 5c keyboard. The new keyboard extender cable can only be purchase through SMCC Spares or SunExpress. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 71.55: Solaris 2.4 for x86 Sun Microsystems Computer Company (SMCC) announces a new release of the Solaris(R) for x86 operating system environment, Solaris 2.4 x86. The new Solaris for x86 release adds increased functionality, quality and performance to customers using the current Solaris for x86 release. Solaris 2.4 for x86 release is based on the Solaris 2.4 SPARC(R) release along with device drivers and installation code specifically for Intel(R) platforms. Solaris 2.4 for x86 will be attractive to customers having both SPARC and x86 systems in their environement. "SunFlash" is the continuation of that journal. When "SunFlash" grew to about 100 articles per month, 140,000+ subscribers and 30,000+ article requests per month I decided that it was time to make some changes. For a variety of reasons, I started the two new journals, "The Sun FlashBack" and "The Internet Sun FlashBack" , and moved production of all three journals to an independent company with its own resouces and Internet domain (FlashBack.COM). My goal, as always, is to provide useful, timely, high-quality information to the Sun user community. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9002: FlashBack and SunFlash Index This article contains a one line index entry for each of the articles posted to the electronic journals that I edit and publish: "SunFlash" , "The Sun FlashBack" and "The Internet Sun FlashBack" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ You may send for any of these articles by sending mail to FlashBack@FlashBack.COM.
