It is aimed at people who know a little about navigating the Internet, but want to know more about WWW specifically. If you don't think you are up to this level, try an introductory Internet book such as Ed Krol's "The Whole Internet" or "EFF's Guide to the Internet". The latter is available electronically by anonymous FTP from ftp.eff.org in the directory pub/Net_info/EFF_Net_Guide. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5015 InterNIC Scout Report: Week ending November 4, 1994 The Scout Report is a weekly publication provided by InterNIC Information Services to assist InterNauts in their ongoing quest to know what's new on and about the Internet. It focuses on those resources thought to be of interest to the InterNIC's primary audience, researchers and educators, however everyone is welcome to subscribe and there are no associated fees. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5016 New Products in the Internet Mall [01 Nov, 94] Lots of new shops in the Internet Mall, the fastest growing commercial spot on the entire Internet! When the alt.windows.cde newsgroup was formed, I thought that there would be constant updates posted here by the COSE vendors. This hasn't happened. This is somewhat understandable; they are extremely busy right now. Also, it was pointed out to me by one of the CDE developers that with four companies involved, it is hard to remember what is and is not public knowledge, so it is better to not say anything lest one company give away another's trade secret. What this is then is the author's, coworker's, and contributor's current understanding of the CDE and COSE in general. Although this newsgroup is about the CDE specifically, there is no COSE newsgroup (yet), so this is a logical place to describe the other COSE technology areas, too. Much of the text in this FAQ is (currently) based on a paper and briefing done in November of 1993 so if it has the feel of a tutorial rather than a traditional FAQ, that is why. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5018 OSF DCE Frequently Asked Questions (by Jon Mauney) Posted to comp.unix.osf.misc, comp.client-server, news.answers and comp.answers on: 25 Oct 94.
