Many of those addresses are local redistribution aliases at Sun offices or customers sites. This makes it hard to determine how SunFlash or FlashBack gets to a particular email address. This message is being posted to each address so that you can see exactly how SunFlash or FlashBack get to you. sunflash@calypso.oit.unc.edu is in both the sunflash and flashback aliases If you want to be dropped, and sunflash@calypso.oit.unc.edu is your personal email address (not an alias) send email to Majordomo@FlashBack.com with a message body: unsubscribe sunflash sunflash@calypso.oit.unc.edu unsubscribe flashback sunflash@calypso.oit.unc.edu If sunflash@calypso.oit.unc.edu is not your address, then majordomo will send the list manager - me - a copy of your request to approve or dissapprove. If sunflash@calypso.oit.unc.edu is a local redistribution alias (e.g. sunflash@sunvice.east.sun.com) then requests should be sent to the owner of that alias instead. (e.g. owner-sunflash@sunvice.east.sun.com) or your local postmaster. If you want to make a change, unsubscribe from one list and then subscribe to the other. For example, if YOU are sunflash@calypso.oit.unc.edu and you want to move from the once-per-day lists to the once-per-week lists, then send this message to Majordomo@FlashBack.com: %mailx Majordomo@FlashBack.com Subject: unsubscribe flashback sunflash@calypso.oit.unc.edu unsubscribe sunflash sunflash@calypso.oit.unc.edu subscribe flashback-w sunflash@calypso.oit.unc.edu subscribe sunflash-w sunflash@calypso.oit.unc.edu If you want to unsubscribe a local redistribution alias such as sunflash@sunvice.east.sun.com (perhaps because you are renaming it), please send the unsubscribe message to Majordomo@FlashBack.com and CC flash@flashback.com. o World Wide Web (www) version of SunFlash Now on draco.nova.edu ---------------------------------------------------------------- I now produce SunFlash and FlashBack in HTML, the markup language of the World Wide Web (WWW). It's nice to view SunFlash or FlashBack with a graphical tool like Mosaic. With the availabiliy of products like Internet-in-a-Box, NetScape and NetCruser, more and more people will be surfing the Web at home. I have placed the HTML files on draco.nova.edu in a compressed tar file: pub/sunflash/www/www.tar.Z. The directory pub/sunflash/www contains all the up-to-date HTML files too. You can browse the files on nova.edu by using the URL ftp://draco.nova.edu/pub/sunflash/www/welcome.html A couple of sites have installed my HTML files into their own Web server for improved local access. Please feel free to copy them to your Web server. I have asked the SunSITE admins to consider installing them on the SunSITE Web servers. Send me email with your URL. o Encourage Transition to sunflash-f and flashback-f ---------------------------------------------------- As a sunflash and flashback subscriber, you have to request the articles that you want. Subscibers to the sunflash-f and flashback-f lists get all the articles. In total, I post between 50 and 110 articles to sunflash-f and flashback-f each month. You can change from the daily to full lists by sending email to majordomo@flashback.com (as long as YOU are sunflash@calypso.oit.unc.edu) %mailx majordomo@flashback.com Subject: unsubscribe flashback sunflash@calypso.oit.unc.edu unsubscribe sunflash sunflash@calypso.oit.unc.edu subscribe flashback-f sunflash@calypso.oit.unc.edu subscribe sunflash-f sunflash@calypso.oit.unc.edu o Encourage transition to mime-sunflash-w and mime-flashback-w -------------------------------------------------------------- One of the weekly options is mt-sunflash-w and mt-flashback-w. To these lists, I post one MailTool message per week. The message body is the weekly summary (one paragraph per article) and all of that week's article are included as MailTool style attachments. Many people told me that I should use MIME style attachments instead. As some people can read MIME attachements and others can't, I now offer yet-another-weekly-option: mime-sunflash-w mime-flashback-w You can be on multiple SunFlash lists, so try out mime-sunflash-w or mime-flashback-w! %mailx majordomo@flashback.com Subject: subscribe mime-flashback-w sunflash@calypso.oit.unc.edu subscribe mime-sunflash-w sunflash@calypso.oit.unc.edu I have plans to offer non-text information to the mt- and mime- mailing lists. e.g. screenshots, PostScript files, audio files, pictures of my kids, etc! o Introduce new sponsor list ---------------------------- Many different people have sponsored SunFlash or FlashBack articles. I have created a new list for those people. I will use it to communicate information about SunFlash and FlashBack and why they should continue to sponsor articles. If your company has products or services that would be of interest to the Sun community, please add youself or your company's marketing rep to the sponsor list. The sponor list will not receive any SunFlash or FlashBack articles. I hope that you find SunFlash and FlashBack to be of value! -johnj
